03 REACTIVE DILUENTS

Epotec® Reactive Diluents are low viscosity epoxy group-containing functional products that can react with curing
agents in a similar fashion to liquid epoxy resins. Reactive diluents are mainly used to reduce the viscosity of the
base resin, to improve handling and ease of processing in various applications. They can also be used to optimize
performance properties such as impact strength, flexibility, filler-loading and solvent resistance of the epoxy system.
Epotec® Reactive Diluents are mainly divided into three groups - Aliphatic, Aromatic and Cycloaliphatic. They are
further classified based on their functionality as Mono-Functional (MGE), Di-Functional (DGE) and Tri-Functional
(TGE) Glycidyl-Ethers.

09 EPOTEC® CURING AGENT

Polyamides
Polyamidoamine Curing agents, abbreviated to just Polyamides, are a common class of curing agents that are
generally used together with either standard liquid epoxy resin or various solution-cut epoxy resins. They are often
formulated into solvent-based protective coatings for metal substrates which characteristically give : long pot lives,
high adhesion, high corrosion protection and high flexibility. The chemical resistance however can be inferior to other
types of curing agent. The lower viscosity grades can also find use in civil applications such as concrete primers, and
epoxy mortars, adhesives and concrete repair systems. The natural source of the main raw material, fatty acid, used
to make pollyamides makes them suitable for many food-contact coating applications.

Phenalkamines
Phenalkamines are curing agents based on Cardanol, derived from Cashew shell nut liquid and are generally used
together with either standard liquid epoxy resin or various solution-cut epoxy resins to form solvent-based protective
coatings for metal substrates . They offer good adhesion, low-temperature cure and superior corrosion resistance,
which makes them the curing agent of choice for many marine coating applications. The natural source of cardanol
makes this class of curing agent suitable for food contact applications including potable water tank linings.
