QUESTION 1
a) Explain, when is business research needed?

Every time we wish to find opportunities and threats, business research is necessary. It aids in
problem identification, and with this knowledge, intelligent choices may be taken to effectively
address the issue. Better customer understanding makes it possible to communicate with
customers or stakeholders more effectively. The reduction of risks and uncertainties can be
achieved by proactive business research. Business research can be used to plan the necessary
investments and financial consequences.
(5 marks)

b) What do you understand about business research methodology?

Business research is the process of gathering comprehensive information about every aspect of
business and applying that information to increase sales and profit. Such a study aids businesses
in identifying the most lucrative or in-demand goods and services. Research methodology is a
description of the steps taken to conduct a specific type of study. It outlines the methods or
processes used to locate and evaluate data pertaining to a certain research topic.
(5 marks)
QUESTION 2
a. Interpret with suitable examples the differences between quantitative and qualitative
research?

Quantitative research deals with numbers and statistics, while qualitative research deals with
words and meanings. Quantitative methods allow you to systematically measure variables and
test hypotheses. Qualitative methods allow you to explore concepts and experiences in more
detail.
(5 marks)

b. Explain the difference between deductive and inductive reasoning with suitable examples?
Inductive reasoning is a bottom-up approach, while deductive reasoning is top-down. Inductive
reasoning takes you from the specific to the general, while in deductive reasoning, you make
inferences by going from general premises to specific conclusions With this type of reasoning, if
the premises are true, then the conclusion must be true. Logically Sound Deductive Reasoning
Examples: All dogs have ears; golden retrievers are dogs, therefore they have ears. Here are
some examples of inductive reasoning: Data: I see fireflies in my backyard every
summer. Hypothesis: This summer, I will probably see fireflies in my backyard. Data: Every
dog I meet is friendly. Hypothesis: Most dogs are usually friendly.

QUESTION 3

a. Briefly explain what is literature review?

A literature review is a piece of academic writing demonstrating knowledge and understanding of

the academic literature on a specific topic placed in context. A literature review also includes a
critical evaluation of the material; therefore, it is called a literature review rather than a literature
report. A literature review is also the writing process of summarizing, synthesizing and/or
critiquing the literature found as a result of a literature search. It may be used as background or
context for a primary research project.
(5 marks)

b. Elaborates, the purpose of literature review in the research process?

The purpose of a literature review is to gain an understanding of the existing research and debates
relevant to a particular topic or area of study, and to present that knowledge in the form of a
written report. It also helps to improve research methodology.

QUESTION 4

Variables and constructs are terms that are quite often used in research which leads to a belief
that they are one and the same thing in which they are not. Explain the differences between these
two terms, how they are similar and how they are not.

-Constructs are broad concepts or topics for a study. Constructs can be conceptually defined in
that they have meaning in theoretical terms. They can be abstract and do not necessarily need to
be directly observable. Examples of constructs include intelligence or life satisfaction. Variables
are created by developing the construct into a measurable form. Variables, by definition,
correspond to any characteristic that varies (meaning they have at least two possible values).
Examples of variables include height in inches, scores on a depression inventory, and ages of
employees.

QUESTION 5

“Casual research is built on the exploratory and descriptive research as these paves the way to
a clearer picture of the problem.” Discuss this statement.

QUESTION 1

Write short notes on the following methods of data collection: -

a. In-depth interview
In-depth interviews are a qualitative data collection method that allows for the collection of a
large amount of information about the behavior, attitude and perception of the interviewees
During in-depth interviews, researchers and participants have the freedom to explore additional
points and change the direction of the process when necessary. It is an independent research
method that can adopt multiple strategies according to the needs of the research.

b. Focus group discussion

A focus group discussion involves gathering people from similar backgrounds or experiences
together to discuss a specific topic of interest. It is a form of qualitative research where questions
are asked about their perceptions attitudes, beliefs, opinion or ideas. In focus group discussion
participants are free to talk with other group members; unlike other research methods it
encourages discussions with other participants. It generally involves group interviewing in
which a small group of usually 8 to 12 people. It is led by a moderator (interviewer) in a loosely
structured discussion of various topics of interest.

QUESTION 2
“A valid instrument is always reliable, but a reliable instrument may not always be valid.” Comment
on this statement

in terms of in terms let's look at validity, validity implies validity implies the degree validity in line,
the degree to which the research with the research instrument, with the research instrument
measures what is suspected to measure where else reliability. Whereas reliability, warehouse
reliability. Your phase two, the extent there stands to which the skill produces this tend to read this.
Q. Produces their stand to reach. The skill produces consistent results, consistent results when
measurements are made when measurements made and sue validity is more about utility validity is
more about utility, reliability is more about consistency and regular routes. Yeah, reliability. Our
reliability is more about consistency, more about consistency and blurry to an instrument to run
instruments which does what it is expected to do, does it with more or less consistency. But an
instrument which may be very well, maybe which may very well be consistent, may not actually
perform what is suspected today. That is why the statement a valid instrument is always reliable,
but a reliable instrument may not always be valid can be agreed upon. Thank you very much.

QUESTION 3
Write your Chapter One (1) of your research project paper that you intend to pursue. Your chapter
One (1) should have the following basic contents: -
 Chapter 1 – Introduction
Page 4
 Chapter Overview
 Background of Study
 Problem Statement
 Research Objectives
 Research Questions
 Scope of the study
 Significance of the study
 Organization of the Research Chapter

Quantitative research uses numerical data and statistical analysis to measure variables and test hypotheses, offering precision and generalizability in findings. Qualitative research, by contrast, uses descriptive data to explore complex concepts and experiences, providing depth and context. Together, they ensure a comprehensive understanding by providing both detailed explorations and broad overviews of business phenomena .

Business research is needed when identifying opportunities and threats to make informed decisions and effectively address issues. It aids in understanding customer needs, thus improving stakeholder communication, and reduces risks by enabling proactive planning. Business research also assists in strategic investment decisions and evaluating financial consequences, which ultimately enhances business outcomes .

Casual research relies on exploratory research to identify key variables and issues and on descriptive research to understand these variables' relationships before establishing causality. By layering these methods, researchers can construct a comprehensive picture that accurately models cause-and-effect relationships, leading to more effective business solutions .

Inductive reasoning involves deriving general principles from specific observations, useful for developing theories in exploratory phases. Deductive reasoning tests these theories by applying general principles to specific cases, ensuring conclusions are logically sound if premises are true. Effective application involves using inductive reasoning to identify patterns and deductive reasoning to confirm insights within business research contexts .

Constructs are broad, abstract concepts crucial for theoretical frameworks, while variables are measurable elements derived from constructs, with at least two potential values. Properly identifying constructs and translating them into operational variables is essential for designing studies that accurately test hypotheses and produce meaningful data .

Validity measures the degree to which an instrument accurately assesses what it is meant to, while reliability refers to an instrument's consistency in producing results. An instrument that is valid must yield consistent results as it accurately captures the intended measurement, whereas a reliable instrument might consistently generate incorrect results, indicating a lack of validity .

The introduction chapter comprises an overview, background, problem statement, objectives, research questions, study scope, significance, and organization. These components establish the study's context, articulate the research question, outline aims, and demonstrate relevance. Together, they construct a coherent framework that guides subsequent research efforts .

In-depth interviews provide detailed insights into individual behaviors and perceptions through flexible, deep questioning structures, while focus groups leverage group dynamics to elicit a range of perspectives, promoting rich, interactive discussion. Together, these methods provide complementary data that capture both individual and collective insights crucial for business decision-making .

Research methodology provides a framework for gathering and analyzing information systematically, enhancing the reliability and validity of findings. It helps in identifying effective data collection methods and analytic strategies tailored to specific business research questions, which improves the ability to derive actionable insights that enhance sales and profitability .

A literature review synthesizes existing research to establish a foundation for new studies by identifying gaps, refining questions, and establishing contextual relevance. It aids in building a theoretical framework, guiding methodological choices, and ensuring that research questions are both relevant and cutting-edge, thereby enhancing the quality and credibility of the study .
