DESCRIPTION

is a black, solvent based bitumen coating solution and is intended for cold
application when applied by brushing, spraying or a suitable dipping process, it will provide an
effective coating for the protection of iron and steel. It meets MS 160:1995 (Type 1) or BS
3416:1991 (Type 1). It is also used for the priming of concrete and other surfaces.
However, coating is not intended to withstand
conditions of high temperature such as boilers, smoke stacks, etc. for which special coatings
should be obtained, nor contamination, with oils or paint solvents, all of which conditions will
cause softening of the film.
USAGE
is used to protect surfaces against rust rather than to decorate them. Its
main function is to exclude moisture or other corrosive agents. Therefore, it is important that
each coat is applied in a continuous unbroken film without ‘misses'.

TECHNICAL DETAILS
Adhesion
It has good adhesion to most surfaces commonly found in building e.g. ferrous metals, slightly
etched zinc, concrete and brick.
Chemical and Water Resistance
Resistant to water, dilute acids and alkalis.
Not resistant to oils and solvents.
Dilution Drying Time
No thinning of should The coating will dry within two hours
be allowed as it is supplied ready for use. at normal room condition.

Durability
The durability of coating depends mainly upon the thickness of the film
and the degree of exposure. It is important to apply in a number of coats, as thick films give
great protection than thin ones.
The degree of exposure largely controls the rate of deterioration of the surface and provided
that the film is of adequate thickness, it will continue to give long lasting protection although
there may be a loss in glossiness.
Flash Point, oC

Flexibility

Heat flow Resistance
The cured film will not flow or sag.

PREPARATION OF SURFACES
1. Porous surfaces – all dirt and grease should be resolved.
2. Non-porous surfaces – all dirt and dust should be resolved by thorough and any loosely
adhering flakes of material should be detached.
3. Previously bitumen primed surfaces – all dirt, grease and loosely adhering coating
should be removed by washing or other suitable means. Any bare patches of metal
should be spot-primed with before the general coating is applied.

APPLICATION
The application is preferably by brush or spray. When use as a primer on concrete surface,
one coat of is suffice. For protection of iron and steel, at least two coats of
should be applied, the second coat following the first as soon as the later is
thoroughly dry.

Coverage
Non-porous surface – recommended coverage is 11-13 sq. m. per litre per coat (wet)
Porous surface – the coverage rate must be adjusted accordingly, an additional thinned priming
may be required.

HANDLING PRECAUTION
Clean hands and tools with kerosene or solvents.

STORAGE LIFE
12 months under good storage conditions and in undamaged containers. This material should
be stored and always kept away from naked flames.

PACKING
is available in 5-litre tin, 20-litre pail and 210-litre drum.
