Opening Speech for PTA Meeting
Delivered by Mr. Salami.
Friday, 18th October, 2024.
Lagos Centre Point, Lagos State, Nigeria.
Good morning, distinguished parents, guardians, teachers,
and esteemed members of our school community.
It is both a privilege and an honor to welcome you all to
today’s PTA meeting, not just as the PTA Chairman, but also
as a fellow parent invested in the success and well-being of
our children. Your presence here today shows your
dedication to your children’s education, and I deeply
appreciate the time you’ve taken to be part of this
important gathering.
As parents, we all share the same goal: to ensure that our
children receive the best possible education in a nurturing
and supportive environment. At Lagos Centre Point, we are
fortunate to be part of a private school that strives for
excellence. However, even in our private setting, we are
not immune to the challenges facing the broader
education sector in Nigeria.
1. Rising Costs of Quality Education: Running a private
school comes with significant operational expenses.
From hiring highly skilled teachers to maintaining
modern facilities, ensuring our children get the best
education is a priority. However, these efforts come
with rising costs, which can sometimes weigh heavily
on families. The managements, as a school
community, are committed to finding ways to
continue providing quality education without placing
undue financial pressure on parents.
2. Embracing Digital Learning: As we know, technology
is reshaping the world, and our children need to be
prepared for this reality. While private schools have
more flexibility to introduce digital tools, fully
integrating them into the learning process remains a
challenge. At Lagos Centre Point, the school
managements in collaboration with the PTA are
working to incorporate digital skills into the
curriculum to ensure our children are prepared for the
future.
3. Partnership with Parents: As parents, our role doesn’t
end when we drop our children off at school. Our
support at home—whether through encouragement,
helping with assignments, or maintaining open
communication with teachers—is critical to our
children’s success. Together, we can build a supportive
network that nurtures both their academic and
personal development.
Being both a parent and PTA chairman gives me a unique
perspective on how we can support our children more
effectively. I understand the concerns and hopes we all
share for their future, and I believe that by working
together, we can overcome the challenges before us.
Today’s meeting is an opportunity for us to discuss how we
can continue to improve the educational experience at
Lagos Centre Point and how, as a community, we can
address any issues that arise. Your voices matter, and I
encourage you to share your thoughts and suggestions as
we move forward together.
Once again, thank you for your time, your support, and
your commitment to our children’s success. I look forward
to a productive and meaningful discussion today.
Thank you.
