Flexi System External OVP (FSES) operation

Operation considerations for Flexi System External OVP (FSES) 472285A.

Flexi System External OVP (FSES) protects Flexi sub-modules against surge pulse(s) in power
feeding lines. It is also used to provide power to the Flexi Site Support Module (FCSA), and for
altering the DC cable diameter. It does not require regular maintenance.

The FSES gives SPD Class II (C, T2) surge protection 15 kA for DC power feed and provides IP65
protection. It is used in both ends of the long DC feeder line, but not at the input of a System Module
because of its limited ampacity. However, it can be used at the System Module FSMF variant DC
input when the optional FPFD PDU is not installed or FSME/ESMB/ESMC when the integrated
Power Distribution DC ports are not used. It gives:

protection level UP (differential, that is line – line) < 500 V (at In, 8/20 us).

protection level UP (common, that is line – ground) < 1000 V (at In, 8/20 us).

The FSES can be installed:

on the side of a 3U casing.

on the roof of Flexi Cabinet for Indoor (FCIA).

on the roof of Flexi Cabinet for Outdoor (FCOA).

on Flexi Pole Kit (FPIA).

In case the protective components have been damaged by the surge pulse, an alarm can be
detected from FSES. The alarm connection is Normally Open - an alarm is raised when connection
becomes Closed. The complete FSES need to be replaced with a new one in order to protect the
power feeding lines again. The damage of the protective component does not turn off the power
feeding between the modules.

In distributed sites, SPD alarms are connected to the pole top RF Module external alarm interface.
In wall, floor and cabinet installations, the Flexi System Module external alarm interface can be
used, too.

Maximum constant output current for the FSES is 30 A DC. Version 472285A.204 supports 40 A load
current.
