button.

d OFF2 Pressing the button twice (or once for a long time) stops the motor
naturally (by inertia). This feature is always enabled.

Reverse Press this button to change the direction of rotation of the motor. The
direction of inverse is indicated by a negative sign (-) or a flashing decimal point. By
rotation default it is locked; see “Start” button.

Pressing this button in the “ready” state starts the motor and runs at the
preselected Jog frequency. The motor stops when the button is released.
Pressing this button when the engine is running has no effect.

Panel/Button Function Effects

This button is used to display additional information.

Pressing and holding this button for 2 seconds while driving, from any parameter, displays the following:
1. Intermediate circuit voltage (indicated by d. units in V).
2. Output current (A)
3. Output frequency (Hz)
4. Output voltage (indicated by or . units in V).
5. The value selected in P0005 (if P0005 is set to display any of the above values (1 - 4) it is not displayed
again).
Pressing again returns to the previous parameter.
Jump function
By Functions briefly pressing the Fn button it is possible to jump from any parameter
(rXXXX or PXXXX) to r0000, allowing another parameter to be modified. Once
you return to r0000, pressing the Fn button will take you back to the initial point.
Annular
When alarm and error messages appear, they can be acknowledged by
pressing the Fn button.

By pressing this button you can access the parameters.

5.4 Torque Control

It is common to operate with frequency and torque control from two separate inputs. This is the best
procedure to operate the MM440 in vector control. With the main setpoint frequency derived from analog
input 1, and the torque limit signal derived from the second analog input (terminals 10 AN+ and 11-). In
practice this means that either frequency or torque can be in continuous control, while the second input acts
as a control limit with the controls alternating as required.
P1000 = 2 (Frequency setpoint for analog input 1)

5.5 Applications with PID Controller

PI on Micromaster 420:
A 420 drive needs to be configured to perform a PI as follows:
Control signal in voltage from 0 to 10V, however the signal is only used from 9V to 10V therefore from 0V to
9V it is dead zone. When the signal is between 0V and 9V the drive must operate at nominal speed (60Hz),
when the signal rises from 9V to 10V the drive must lower the frequency to 30Hz, proportionally.
Solution:
Connect the control signal to the analog input terminals 3(+) and 4(-)
Set the engine parameters normally.
Determine the signal source (BOP, terminal block, etc.)
5/15

Set parameters:
P2200 = 1 Enable PID.
P2253 = 2224 Sets PID setpoint to fixed.
P2201 = 90% Defines the fixed setpoint.
P2254 = 0 Compensation
P2255 = 10 Setpoint gain
P2256 = 10 Compensator gain
P2257 = 1s Ramp up setpoint time
P2258 = 1s Ramp down setpoint time
P2261 = 0 Softens the setpoint
P2264 = 755.0 PID feedback on analog input
P2265 = 0.5 Soften the feedback
P2267 = 100 Maximum value of feedback
P2268 = 0 Minimum value of feedback
P2270 = 0 Function of feedback
P2271 = 0 Feedback signal inversion
P2280 = 3 Proportional gain
P2285 = 5 Integral term time5
P2291 = 100% PID output upper limit
P2292 = 50% PID output lower limit
P2293 = 0.5 Ramp up/down time limit

It is also necessary to scale the analog input signal to determine how this signal is used. The parameters
needed to adjust are:
P0757 = 9V Value of x1
P0758 = 50% Value of y1
P0759 = 10V Value of x2
P0760 = 100% Value of y2
P0761 = 9V Deadband width

5.6 Constant pressure pumping

Feedback input: 4 – 20mA analog
Fixed PID Setpoint as Adjustment
It is assumed that the motor works from 0 – 60Hz. It will depend on the pump.
The pump setpoint is expected to be 50% = 30Hz
The drive is configured with the basic motor and control parameters, it is assumed that the source of orders
will be made by terminals.
P700 = 2 Source of orders by terminal block
P1080 = 0 Minimum frequency 0Hz
P1082 = 60 Maximum frequency 60 Hz

5 Increasing the value increases the response time proportionally.

5.9 How to control a frequency inverter

Micromaster 440, using two analog frequency setpoints, alternating
between them?
When variable speed drives are used to control processes, it is sometimes necessary to control the speed
manually, using a potentiometer and control the speed with the analog signal provided by a sensor or
instrument (mA) of the process and switch between them.
As general conditions:
• Potentiometer greater than 5 KOhm
• 4 – 20mA instrument signal.
• The drive operates from 0 – 60 Hz.
• Sensor signal inversely proportional, higher current lower speed and vice versa.
The procedure consists of:
1. Analog input configuration:
a. Analog input 1, voltage 0 to 10V.
b. Analog input 2, Current 4 – 20mA
The terminal block Dip-switches are set, switch 1 in the OFF position and switch 2 in the ON position.

5.11 How to implement pressure control with a Micromaster 440 frequency

converter, driving a pump using the PID function?
When you have systems with pumps, it is usually required that the pressure generated by the pump be
constant or have a level defined by the user. For this purpose, process measurement systems are used, in
this case a Sitrans P pressure transmitter.
General conditions:
• Potentiometer greater than 5 KOhm
• Instrument signal 4 – 20mA – Sitrans P (0 to 10 bar).
• The drive operates from 0 – 60 Hz.
Control theory:
PID controllers basically consist of three constants or controllers: Proportional, derivative and integral.
When you have a step type input, depending on the controller you have the following responses:

20 -40 %
be
Feedback signal. Instrument signal 4 – 20 mA, equivalent to pressure 0 -10 bar.

The procedure consists of:

1. Selecting the command source or starting the equipment
a. Via digital inputs, terminal 5
b. P0700 =2
c. P0701 =1
5/46

2. Analog input configuration:

a. Analog input 1, voltage 0 to 10V.
b. Analog input 2, Current 4 – 20mA
The terminal block Dip-switches are set, switch 1 in the OFF position (Voltage) and switch 2 in the ON
position (Current).

c. Additionally, the following parameters must be configured:

P0756[0] = 0 (Unipolar voltage 0 – 10V) Analog input 1
P0756[1] = 2 (Unipolar current 0 – 20 mA) / Analog input 2
3. Connect analog inputs:
a. Potentiometer: On pins 1, 3 and 4, jumper between pins 2 and 4.
b. Instrument signal: pin 10 (+) and pin 11 (-).
4. Scaling of analog signals:
Analog signals must be scaled according to the type of signals being handled.
For potentiometer: 0V -> 0 % (0 – 10 bar)
10V -> 100 %
For sensor input: 4 mA -> 0 % (0 – 10 bar)
20 mA-> 100 %
Enables the PID. Note that the PID is always active.

PID Mode:
0 – As a main slogan
1 – As an adjustment.
Setpoint acceleration ramp time.
Set to 5 seconds or longer for a slower (softer) response at start-up.
Setpoint deceleration ramp time.
5/28

P2261 = 0 Time constant for the setpoint (filter)

A time filter is added to prevent the PID from reacting to
sudden changes in the setpoint.
P2263 = 0 Controller type, D component in the feedback signal.
P2264 = 755.1 Feedback signal via analog input 2
P2265 = 0.5 Time constant for the feedback signal, in case
the signal is very unstable.
P2267 = 100 Maximum value for the feedback signal
P2268 = 0 Minimum value for the feedback signal
P2274 = 0 Derivative time, PID constant Td.
P2280 = 1 Proportional Gain, PID constant P.
A high value will increase the controller override percentage.
P2285 = 0.5 Integral time, PID constant Ti.
P2258 = 1 Setpoint ramp down time
P2291 = 100 Upper limit controller output
P2292 = 0 Lower limit controller output
P2293 = 1 Controller limit ramp times.
P2268 = 0 Min PID feedback

Additionally you can check important PID values in the following parameters:
