Disclaimer
Our AI writing assessment is designed to help educators identify text that might be prepared by a generative AI tool. Our AI writing assessment may not always be accurate (it may misidentify
writing that is likely AI generated as AI generated and AI paraphrased or likely AI generated and AI paraphrased writing as only AI generated) so it should not be used as the sole basis for
adverse actions against a student. It takes further scrutiny and human judgment in conjunction with an organization's application of its specific academic policies to determine whether any
academic misconduct has occurred.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I interpret Turnitin's AI writing percentage and false positives?

The percentage shown in the AI writing report is the amount of qualifying text within the submission that Turnitin’s AI writing
detection model determines was either likely AI-generated text from a large-language model or likely AI-generated text that was
likely revised using an AI-paraphrase tool or word spinner.

False positives (incorrectly flagging human-written text as AI-generated) are a possibility in AI models.

AI detection scores under 20%, which we do not surface in new reports, have a higher likelihood of false positives. To reduce the
likelihood of misinterpretation, no score or highlights are attributed and are indicated with an asterisk in the report (*%).

The AI writing percentage should not be the sole basis to determine whether misconduct has occurred. The reviewer/instructor
should use the percentage as a means to start a formative conversation with their student and/or use it to examine the submitted
assignment in accordance with their school's policies.

What does 'qualifying text' mean?

Our model only processes qualifying text in the form of long-form writing. Long-form writing means individual sentences contained in paragraphs that make up a
longer piece of written work, such as an essay, a dissertation, or an article, etc. Qualifying text that has been determined to be likely AI-generated will be
highlighted in cyan in the submission, and likely AI-generated and then likely AI-paraphrased will be highlighted purple.

Non-qualifying text, such as bullet points, annotated bibliographies, etc., will not be processed and can create disparity between the submission highlights and the
percentage shown.

Effective Teaching

Effective teaching is an academic and learner-centred process where subject matter

expertise is integrated with active learning, designing courses, and continuous improvement to

induce deep learning activities (Simonson et al., 2021). Various teachers have taught me

throughout my academic life, yet one teacher stood out as the quintessential model of an

effective teacher. My teacher for psychology in school had an exceptional ability to engage

pupils and facilitate an understanding and positive classroom environment. By reflecting on their

teaching practices based on attributes of effective teaching, I can better appreciate the impact

they had on my learning process.

Organisation and Preparation Skills

The most impressive quality of my psychology teacher was their excellent planning and

organization. Each session had an intended structure and purpose in mind, clear goals and an

agenda to be pursued. Study material in the shape of PowerPoint presentations, handouts and

interactive sessions to support the tough psychological concepts added to each session. Their

planning could be measured by the smooth flow of each session from point to point with less

distraction and higher study efficiency.

Clarity in Explaining Concepts

Psychology might be complex as it involves abstract theories and complex principles but

my teacher had a special talent for explaining complex involved concepts in a simplistic manner

by giving simple examples, analogues, and interesting stories. They dissected complex theories

into tiny pieces and made them digestible so the pupils could learn and remember them in an

instant. They promoted questioning and gave sensible answers so the pupils could be sure of

their grasp of the subject.

Student-Instructor Interactions

Not only does a good teacher teach subject content but also develops good teacher-

student relationship. My psychology teacher attempted to speak with us on an individual level

and showed interest in our project work. They created a non-threatening and open classroom

atmosphere that encouraged students to share ideas and concerns. They encouraged participation

and questioning and made learning an active process through active argument and discussion and

cooperative project work.

Personality Traits and Characteristics

Aside from pedagogy, their personality made them successful as well. My professor had

an interest in psychology and brought this along with them to their classes and made the material

interesting and applicable. They were patient and compassionate as much as they were friendly

and this made the students feel at ease approaching them for counsel. They had a sense of

humour as well and this made the classroom an easy and informal place to learn.

Creating an Effective Classroom Setting

It takes a suitable learning environment in order to learn and teach properly. It made my

class warm and organized in a manner in which participation got encouraged. Flexibility and

control were balanced by my teacher in a manner in which clear guidelines were given and at the

same time there remained room for imagination and free thought as well. Use of multimedia

facilities and practical exercises and case studies improved the quality of learning and ensured

motivation for the learners.

Other Relevant Characteristics

One of the features that made my teachers successful was the ability to cater to different

learning styles. They knew every learner had his own weaknesses and strengths and balanced

them accordingly to overcome them. With visual methods, spoken descriptions, or practical

exercises, they ensured every learner had an opportunity to succeed. They also gave positive

criticism, helping the learners improve their work and avoid demotivation.

Conclusion

Reflecting on my psych teacher, it becomes obvious there is excellent teaching in a center

of order and structure, organization and clarity, personality and energy, interest and enthusiasm,

and responsiveness and flexibility. How they could develop an open and discursive classroom

atmosphere made my success and enjoyment of psychology a possibility. These teachers are

most immediately accountable for their learners' accomplishment and development. Excellent

teaching isn't the transmission of information—it's igniting curiosity, facilitating intellectual

exploration, and creating lasting impact in the lives of learners.
