Outlier Detection Using Q-Test

The document discusses the Q-test for identifying outliers in a data set, stating that if the calculated Q value exceeds the critical value from the Q table, the questionable data point can be rejected. In a specific example with 8 data points, a calculated Q of 0.675 allows for the omission of a value of 40.6, as it is unlikely to occur by chance. Additionally, it mentions the use of a t-table for determining parameters based on degrees of freedom and confidence levels.

Q-TEST
If the calculated value of Q exceeds the critical value given
in the Q table (GIVEN BLOW), then the questionable value
may be rejected
For a set of 8 data points, according to the table, Q would be
greater than 0.526 Since our experimental Q (0.675) is
larger than 0.526, we may safely omit the 40.6 value from
our data set, because such a large value is unlikely to occur
by chance alone.
where t is a parameter that depends upon the number of
degrees of freedom(v) and the confidence level required. A
table of the values of t at different confidence levels and
degrees of freedom (v) is given in below (You don’t have to
remember this)
