ODD SEMESTER EXAMINATION, 2023 – 24

II Yr. [Link]. – Electronics & Communication Engineering
ANALOG ELECTRONICS CIRCUITS

Duration: 3:00 hrs. Max Marks: 100

Note: - Attempt all questions. All Questions carry equal marks. In case of any ambiguity or missing data,
the same may be assumed and state the assumption made in the answer.

Q 1. Answer any four parts of the following. 5x4=20

a) What is thermal runaway and Early effect in a transistor?
b) Draw the circuit diagram of a Darlington pair amplifier and write down its
important features. Also find out the value of input resistance of the circuit, if
hfe=50, RE=5kΩ.
c) Explain the harmonic distortion in power amplifiers.
d) A BJT has hfe=150, Ce=2pF, Cc=0.3pF and biased at Ic=0.5mA. Find the short
circuit current gain cut-off frequency and unity current gain frequency of the
transistor.
e) Write the advantages and disadvantages of class B power amplifier over the class
A power amplifier.
f) Draw the circuit diagram of a logarithmic amplifier and derive the input-output
relationship for the same.
Q 2. Answer any four parts of the following. 5x4=20
a) Determine the oscillation frequency of a Colpitts oscillator. Given that, C1=1µF,
C2=0.1µF, L=470µH.
b) Draw the Ebers-Moll model of a PNP transistor and write the related equations.
c) Why multivibrators are required? Give the classification of multivibrators.
d) An amplifier has a midband gain of 1000 with lower and upper cut-off
frequencies of 1 kHz and 20 kHz, respectively. The midband gain reduces to 20
when negative feedback is applied. Calculate the lower and upper cut-off
frequencies with feedback.
e) Give the analogy between the thermal and electrical quantities for flow of heat
in a power transistor.

respectively. Derive expression for overall voltage gain of the amplifier using
approximate h-parameter analysis.
b) Explain the operation of a square wave generator with the help of a circuit
diagram. Also derive the expression for output frequency, f0. Sketch the output
