modern digital design?

Design for Verification (DFV) refers to intentionally structuring and planning a design
such that it becomes easier to verify its functional correctness at various stages of
development. This includes both architectural and coding-level choices that facilitate
visibility, controllability, and observability of internal components.

Modern digital systems, particularly SoCs, integrate numerous complex and third-party
IP blocks. These IPs are often used in a black box fashion, where internal details are
abstracted away, making system-level issues harder to diagnose. DFV ensures that
verification doesn't become a bottleneck by allowing for efficient debugging and
traceability.

Incorporating DFV practices helps improve test coverage, shorten debug cycles, and
reduce time to market. It also aligns the design process with formal and functional
verification needs, ensuring correctness under real application conditions.

Additional strategies include using assertions, coverage metrics, and design for test
(DFT) hooks to catch corner cases. DFV also encourages a verification-friendly coding
style such as parameterization, modularization, and consistent clocking structures.

The goal is to ensure that verification is not an afterthought but a central part of the

functional corners.

unexpected behaviours, while directed tests target specific use cases or bugs.

Another advanced technique involves co-simulation, where high-level models (e.g.,


SystemC or Python-based) interact with RTL blocks to deliver application-level
workloads.

On hardware testbeds (FPGA-based prototypes), real inputs are fed into the design via
external sensors, USB/HDMI interfaces, or communication ports, replicating the exact
usage conditions.

6) Can you describe an example of a complex use-case scenario that your RTL test

A complex use-case scenario could involve verifying a System-on-Chip (SoC) design
