CHAPTER 5
Summary
The study used descriptive-correlations research to examine the amount of
risk variables related to school, peers, families, social media, and environment
among students in Sindangan National Agricultural School in Zamboanga del Norte
during the calendar year 2023-2024. A questionnaire checklist was utilized to collect
data, and respondents were profiled.
Findings
Based on the results, the following were revealed:
1. Demographic Profile of Respondents
Age:
Most respondents were 18 and 19 years old, each representing 30% of the
total. The least represented age group was 16 years old, accounting for
16.7%.
Gender:
The sample included more male respondents (56.7%) than female
respondents (43.3%), indicating a slight male majority.
Year Level:
A large proportion of respondents were in Grade 12 (73.3%), while only
26.7% were in Grade 11, suggesting a predominance of older students in the
survey.
2. Factors Influencing Student Misbehavior
In Terms of School:
Respondents generally acknowledged several factors that negatively impact
student behavior, with an average weighted mean of 2.76. Major concerns
included low commitment and poor academic performance.
In Terms of Peers:
With an average weighted mean of 2.60, respondents agreed that associating
with peers who engage in delinquent behavior and experiences of social
marginalization contribute to misbehavior.
In Terms of Family:
An average weighted mean of 2.81 indicates agreement on factors such as
lack of family support and ineffective parenting contributing to student
misbehavior.
In Terms of Social Media:
Respondents (average mean of 2.96) agreed that social media usage
negatively impacts academic performance and mental health, underscoring
its significant influence.
In Terms of Environment:
The average weighted mean of 2.77 suggests agreement that environmental
factors, such as limited leisure activities and living in disadvantaged
neighborhoods, contribute to misbehavior.
3. Relationship Between Factors and Misbehavior
Statistical Analysis:
The Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test revealed no significant
differences in the impact of factors affecting student misbehavior across age,
gender, and year level (p-values: 0.448, 0.869, and 0.142, respectively).
Thus, there is no significant relationship between demographic factors and
the influence of misbehavior.
Conclusions
Based on the findings of the study, the study found that there are various risk
factors affecting the misbehavior of students. The findings indicate the extent of
school, peers, family, social media and environment are most prevalent among the
senior high school students.
The results of the study showed the mean rating of the factors affecting
students’ misbehavior are agreed by the students regarding the different
characteristics of students. Their study has shown the male are more misbehave
than female. This happens because males tend to be more concerning and is
susceptible in terms of the factors that affects their behavior. Students may show
misbehavior individually or in groups.
To conclude it can be said that the suitable strategies for addressing students’
misbehavior are to be aware of it completely. Dealing with the factors affecting
misbehavior of students in terms of school, peers, family, social media, and
environments need to be manage effectively.
Recommendations
1. Establish Life Goals: Students should define their life goals and commit to
their studies to avoid disappointment from low grades.
2. Parental Support: Children require guidance from their parents, especially
in their academic endeavors. Instead of resorting to harsh discipline, parents
should engage in calm discussions to help their children learn from their
mistakes.
3. Organize Engaging Activities: The Department of Social Welfare and
Development should plan a variety of activities to keep students occupied
and deter them from negative behavior.
4. Implement Clear Rules: Policymakers must establish rules and regulations
that promote positive behavior among students by clearly outlining the
consequences of misbehavior.
5. Investigate Misbehavior Factors: Future researchers should conduct
thorough investigations to identify the primary factors influencing student
misbehavior and explore effective strategies to help them improve.
