Eco-Friendly Shoe Polish from Banana Peels

The document describes the serious problems of water, soil, and air pollution due to human activities and proposes developing an ecological asphalt based on banana peels to reduce the pollution from common asphalts. It explains the steps to select, wash, chop, macerate, and cook the banana peels to produce the asphalt experimentally.

I. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

1.1 FOUNDATION OF THE PROBLEM:

The Earth faces a serious threat of contamination from the

soils, the atmosphere, rivers and seas, which support life. Each
day environmental pollution becomes more present and impacts
us and in nature, causing damages, that many times,
have become irreparable.

Among one of the many problems that affect the environment

environment, we can find certain more serious effects, which
they have been produced in the differentnatural resourcesrenewable
such asthe waterthefloorthe andthe [Link] last one, at such a high level of
pollution, that the ozone layer, which covers planet Earth, is
day by day thinner and starts to cause numerous damages to the
population.

We are suffering this environmental crisis, we the

humans, for we are ourselves, the ones with our
machineries and inventions, chemical products we managed to produce
changes, but not expected changes, not good changes, but
changes that make us lose part of our life, changes that
many times they are radicals, and they manage to change everything

functioning of nature, and, only by our whims.

The consequences of pollution are many, and as

we know all are evil. As it becomes noticeable, it goes
causing more disastrous consequences that affect our health and
at the same time affecting human behavior. All of this is
provoked by the poor quality in which we are living,
consequence of the poor quality in which we are leaving the environment

The most serious consequences have been caused to the

natural resourcesrenewables: water, ethe floorand the air; resources that
in the long term, they will not end up being 'renewable', but rather NOT

renewable energy.

Regarding thesourcesofwater pollutionwe can

mention

Wastewater: Coming from households.

Industrial source waters: Those that contaminate the most.
degree.
Agricultural-origin contamination: It comes from the products
used in theagriculture.

The case of herbicides and pesticides deserves special attention.

eventually they end up consuming them.

Regarding the air pollution caused

mainly for theindustriesdomestic combustions and
industrial, motor vehicles, chemical products that
they easily vaporize; they have seriously affected theairwhat
we breathe, producing disorders such as burning in the eyes and in the
nose, irritation and itching of the throat and respiratory problems.

Under certain circumstances, some chemical substances

that are found in polluted air can cause cancer,
congenital malformations, brain damage and system disorders
nervous, as well as pulmonary and respiratory tract injuries.

At a certain concentration level and after a certain

exposure time, certain air pollutants are extremely
dangerous and can cause serious disorders and even death.

The main pollutants are: Carbon Dioxide

Sulfur, Dioxide ofCarbonMonoxide ofCarbonOxide of
NitrogenHydrocarbonsGaseous, Lead Oxide, Fluorides, Powder
Atmosphericproductof the crushing ofmaterialsand spraying of
products.

The WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION estimates that 4.6

millions of people die each year from causes directly
related to air pollution. Many of which are
attributable to air pollution within our own
homes. Annually, there are many more deaths worldwide
that are more related to air pollution than to
automobile accidents.

Given all of the above, it is necessary to propose alternatives.

suitable for the reduction of these polluting effects,
mainly of water and air; and not only to raise them but to carry them
I finish (executing them) and that is what this work aims to accomplish.
1.2 FORMULATION OF THE PROBLEM:

How to reduce pollution caused by bitumens

common produced based on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,
elaborating an eco-friendly polish made from banana peels?

1.3 objectives

In this project, we will show the importance and utilization.

of a food product such as the banana and we will give it a value
productive to its waste (peels).

II. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

2.1 BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH:

Work has been done on eco-friendly bitumen with shells.

of bananas in the city of Chiclayo at Señor de Sipán University
the year 2011, at the School of Industrial Engineering - Faculty of
Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning.

Another similar job called homemade shoe polish is

posted on the internet.

Feasibility study for the production of bitumen from

the banana peel in the city of Lima at the National University
of Engineering in the Faculty of Chemical and Textile Engineering.

A similar project is presented in the city of Trujillo in the

National University of Trujillo in the Faculty of Engineering - School
of Industrial Engineering.
2.2 THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

Traditional shoe polish is a product that contains waxes and

solvents that upon evaporation cause their difficult handling and use due to
not to be oily to the touch; that is why a new one is made
formulation based on banana peel wax which gives it a
longer duration.

Currently, the use of products that maintain harmony with the

the environment has become very widespread and accepted, therefore it is being sought

obtain a product with similar characteristics or that contributes to

this end, using resources discarded by other industries such as
case of the banana peel.

The choice of banana peel as the base for the

the presence of waxes in it is the production of this product;
results of experimental tests allowed to verify the principle
active, which allows the skin of this fruit to be spread
directly on the leather of the footwear giving it shine and resistance to
cracking as well as excellent penetration qualities and
product stability over time.

Other research conducted on the epicuticular wax of the

banana peel, reinforce the existence of the active principle of this
product, as indicated by the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture
from the University of Sydney, Australia in May 1986 (22); whose
experience carried out with Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) in
different maturation periods of the shell corroborate the
existence of wax and its characteristics.
III FORMULATION OF HYPOTHESES AND VARIABLES:

3.1. HYPOTHESIS:

The preparation and subsequent marketing of homemade pitch and

Ecological will add value to banana peels.

3.2. VARIABLES:

Banana peels.

Homemade asphalt.

IV. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

The research is of the experimental type.

V. PROCEDURES AND DATA ANALYSIS:

SELECTION:

Green bananas that have consistency are used for this product.
hard and firm. The color of the pulp should be white.

WASHING AND PEELING:

The bananas are washed and peeled, their skins are removed, they are washed.

again with drinking water. It is recommended in this operation

protect your hands with rubber gloves to avoid skin injuries from
the proteolytic effect of the resin or latex of bananas.
SLICED

Banana peels are chopped into pieces using knives or

manual grinders.

MACERATION:

The chopped peels are placed inside a pot with water.

required amount.

Maceration improves the consistency of the eco-friendly bitumen and facilitates the

penetration into the leather for a better finish.

PRE-COOKING:

Banana peels should be drained and placed in a pot with

water in sufficient quantity to cover the shells. Then it is boiled for 60
minutes.

COLD:
Immediately after cooking, the banana peels must
to be drained and cooled.
