Requirements:
1. Identify the organizational structure of a local or international company. How's the present organizational
structure relevant to their success as a company? Where there changes in terms of organizational structure?
Why did these changes occur?
Company: SpaceX
SpaceX is an American Aerospace Company founded in 2002 with the mission to revolutionize space
technology, with the goal of enabling people to live on other planets and making humanity multiplanetary.
The company’s most successful achievement is pioneering reusable rocket technology. Old rocket
technologies can’t be reused for re-entering the atmosphere due to several factors such as the durability of
the rocket for re-entry, no heat protection due to extreme friction caused by air, and no landing systems for
heavy structures such as the rockets. SpaceX has been trying to conquer these obstacles and has
successfully overcome these challenges. Starship was one of the designs that has achieved those feats.
However, the technology that they developed is far from perfect. Nevertheless, SpaceX continues to show
innovative feats and is committed to excellence.
Organizational Structure: Flat Hierarchy

SpaceX uses organizational structure of a flat hierarchy. The company is divided into different
departments with people with different educational attainments and industry experience. The use of flat
hierarchy structure for SpaceX offers fast and direct communication, making it efficient in terms of decision
making. There aren’t many layers of approval, thus ideas move quickly from engineers to leadership. It also
promotes equality and collaboration among its employees, since the flat hierarchy has less higher positions
it makes the employees feel more heard and trusted.
The impact of this organizational structure has made SpaceX a leading company in space
exploration. The company also experienced company growth and has established its reputation in a short
period of time, having 23 years of experience. The structure made SpaceX more successful than NASA
(National Aernautics and Space Administration).
Regarding changes in organizational structure, SpaceX has maintained its flat hierarchy even from
the beginning of their growth as a company. Furthermore, as the company grew, it needed to adapt since the
company is growing at a rapid pace. The growth phase of SpaceX has added more specialized departments,
but the flat structures remain. But the company’s hierarchy became more structured.
