Class Test
General Instructions:
1. This question paper is divided into five sections: A, B, C, D, and E.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A consists of 5 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 1 mark each.
4. Section B consists of 2 Assertion-Reasoning questions of 1 mark each.
5. Section C consists of 4 Short Answer (SA) type questions of 2 marks each.
6. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer (LA) type questions of 4 marks each.
7. Section E consists of 1 Case Study-based question of 5 marks.
Section A
1. If 3 cot A = 4, then the value of tan²A is:
(a) 3/4
(b) 16/9
(c) 9/16
(d) 4/3
2. The value of (sin 30° + tan 45° – cosec 60°) / (sec 30° + cos 60° + cot 45°) is derived from the
values in the trigonometric table. The value of sin 30° + cos 60° is:
(a) 1/2
(b) 1
(c) √3/2
(d) 1/4
3. The trigonometric identity sec² A – tan² A is equal to:
(a) 0
(b) 1
(c) -1
(d) 2
4. The length of the minute hand of a clock is 14 cm. The area swept by the minute hand in 5
minutes is:
(a) 154 cm²
(b) 77 cm²
(c) 77/3 cm²
(d) 154/3 cm²
5. A chord of a circle of radius 10 cm subtends a right angle at the centre. The area of the
corresponding minor segment is calculated by subtracting the area of the triangle from the area
of the sector. The area of the minor sector is (Use π = 3.14):
(a) 314 cm²
(b) 78.5 cm²
(c) 157 cm²
(d) 25 cm²
Section B
Instructions: In the following questions, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement
of Reason (R). Choose the correct option.
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
6. Assertion (A): The value of sin(A + B) is not equal to sin A + sin B.
Reason (R): For A=30° and B=60°, sin(A+B) = sin 90° = 1, whereas sin A + sin B = sin 30° + sin
60° = (1/2) + (√3/2), which is not equal to 1.
7. Assertion (A): If the angle of a sector is 360°, its area is πr².
Reason (R): The area of a sector is a fraction of the area of the circle. When the angle is 360°,
the sector is the entire circle itself.
Section C
7. If cos (A – B) = √3/2 and sin (A + B) = √3/2, where (A+B) and (A-B) are acute angles, find A
and B. Hence, evaluate 2cosA sinB.
8. Prove the following trigonometric identity: (cosec θ – cot θ)² = (1 – cos θ) / (1 + cos θ)
Section D
9. Prove the identity, stating the conditions under which it is valid:
(sin θ – 2sin³ θ) / (2cos³ θ – cos θ) = tan θ
10. In a right triangle ABC, right-angled at B, if tan A = 1, then verify that 2 sin A cos A = 1.
Using this result, prove that cosec² A - 2 = cot² A.
11. A horse is tied to a peg at one corner of a square-shaped grass field of side 15 m by means
of a 5 m long rope. Find:
(i) The area of that part of the field in which the horse can graze.
(ii) The increase in the grazing area if the rope were 10 m long instead of 5 m.
Section E
15. A brooch is made with silver wire in the form of a circle with a diameter of 35 mm. The wire
is also used in making 5 diameters which divide the circle into 10 equal sectors as shown in the
figure.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) What is the angle, in degrees, of each of the 10 sectors? (1 mark)
(ii) Calculate the total length of the silver wire required to make the brooch. (2 marks)
(iii) Find the area of each sector of the brooch. (2 marks)
