N-14 & M11 Engine Operation Guide
OPERATIONRECOMMENDATIONS
Check your engine for leaks or changes in appearance.
Drain the filter, fuel tanks, and air tanks daily to avoid water buildup.
When starting the engine, press the clutch pedal all the way down and without accelerating the engine, keep the attempt to start.
30 seconds at most. If the engine doesn't start, wait 2 minutes before attempting to start again.
Wait for the oil pressure in the engine to show on the indicator. Allow a period of 3 to 5 minutes before
accelerate the engine to 1000 RPM until the coolant temperature reaches 60ºC (140ºF) before operating normally.
It is recommended to make position changes in the transmission at the lowest RPMs the engine allows.
This operating system is called Progressive Changes.
Keep the engine in the range of 1400-1600 where maximum Power, maximum Torque (Force), and the best are obtained.
Fuel Economy. This is the Cruising Speed Range.
Remember that the Engine Brake is an auxiliary braking system to reduce and control engine speed. Do not use it to
make speed changes, completely brake the unit or stop the operation of the engine.
When descending a slope, always engage the Engine Brake at low RPM (1600-1800). It should allow the engine to reach high
R.P.M. The best recommendation is to maintain and control the Engine Brake at maximum R.P.M. but not exceeding 2000 R.P.M.
Upon reaching your destination, it is advisable to refuel the tanks again, as this will help prevent condensation.
of water in the fuel. Avoiding future problems in the Injection System.
Before turning off the engine that operated at full load, keep it at low RPM for 3 to 5 minutes to dissipate the excess.
temperature in the turbocharger and the internal parts of the engine and also for the turbocharger to lower R.P.M.
The engine must use a multigrade oil SAE=15W-40 CES-20076 / API=CH-4 Such as PREMIUM BLUE and PREMIUM BLUE 2000
of CUMMINS, or its equivalent.
The engine should never use only water in the Cooling System. It must use a combination of coolant.
consisting of: 50% water, 50% antifreeze, plus 1.2 @ 3.0 units of Supplemental Cooling Additives
better known as DCA-4 for each gallon of refrigerant of the total system capacity including engine and radiator.
The antifreeze must be low in silicates (according to ASTM D4985 or GM 6038M) such as the COMPLEATE from FLEETGUARD.
The Air, Fuel, Coolant, and Oil filters of the engine must be of the brand and type specified in the manual.
of Operation and Maintenance of your engine, and that comply with the standards issued by CUMMINS. Like the FLEETGUARD filters.
The air filter should never be hit nor cleaned by applying compressed air, as this affects the
filtering capacity of the element causing damage to its engine. The only way to check the condition of the air filter is
measuring the restriction that it presents to the passage of air. The air filter should be changed when the restriction indicator
We mark 25 inches of H2O.
It is important to read the Operation and Maintenance manual for your N14 or N14 PLUS engine for more information.
