What is Coaching and its benefits

Coach is of English origin and means carriage. There are historical reports that

individual (group or company), bringing positive effects through methodologies,
tools and techniques guided by a professional (coach) in a partnership

different but similar interpretations, some of them:

How does Coaching work?

Every coaching session needs to focus on the process, actions through tasks,
supervision with feeling through feedback, continuous evolution to achieve
extraordinary results and, finally, this entire process needs to yield results.
The coach must suspend any type of judgment, as it is necessary to respect and
honoring the coachee's history to achieve goals more effectively
deep and transparent. It is also necessary to always focus on the future, to fix the

thoughts on the goal (whether short, medium, or long term). Finally, the coach
must maintain ethics and confidentiality, as the client needs to feel
9

comfortable to expose one's own light and shadow, knowing that there is confidentiality in

information exposed during the sessions.

The coaching process can be conducted in person or remotely.
(through technological resources), individually or in groups and,
regardless of how the sessions are conducted, it is necessary to know the
4 basic needs of human beings concerning their behavior,
they are:
Being heard in essence: listening in essence is to generate a synergy between the
parts and understand what is truly, listen without prejudices, without
judgments, create a relationship of trust through this synergy
reciprocal.
Being noticed, recognized, and loved: it is a way to demonstrate our affection.
to the people we feel great affection and fondness for. Whenever we
we feel valued, recognized, and important, we also feel
beloved.
To have the right to make mistakes: perfection is something unattainable, but many do not give themselves that.

the right to err and they want to reach a level that is humanly
impossible. We all have the right to make mistakes. We cannot always be right,
even if people demand this from us. When you make a mistake, do not condemn yourself,

you have this right. And when someone judges you, show that person that
ela também é falha e ela também tem esse direito.
Having the right to belong to the systems: We all circulate in several
social groups. We have the right to be in all systems. Not
only to be, but to be accepted, as we are, with our truth, with
our identity. Collectivity shapes and strengthens us. We are beings
social and the feeling of belonging is a feeling of life in fullness.
Many do not feel accepted in their own family, this creates exclusion and
illness of the body and soul. Welcoming is the best way to do
that people are not only in places and groups, but that
they may be in the places and in the groups, but they belong to the places and groups.

In coaching sessions, purposes, mission, and values are worked on. The values are

mission, that is, the purpose is what keeps us moving forward when
Any other person in your place would give up; that is what motivates you to take action.

The coach needs to walk hand in hand with the coachee until a certain point,
but you need to realize that only those who can cross the bridge between point A and the
point B is the coachee himself. Therefore, it is crucial that in all sessions be
a frank conversation was held to determine the level of commitment of the
client to achieve the goal, otherwise it is pointless to have focus, tools and
all coaching techniques available if the coachee is not committed and
engaged in carrying out actions. It is essential that both are committed

self-knowledge is an expected outcome in the coaching process, for only
through it, it is possible to be aware of what the points of improvement are and
strengths within oneself and with this information open the way to know what is needed

expected in real results and, all of this, optimizing the time and energy of the coachee.
We can define coaching as the process that allows us to reclaim the essence of
coach and bring him to the surface of reality.
A coaching process can last, on average, ten weeks and can be
held weekly, depending on the coachee's objective or the methodology
used by the coach.

1.2 PERSONAL CONCLUSION

Coaching is a methodology where professionals use techniques, tools, and,

mainly, a lot of soul and love, to work in partnership with the coachee
(client) focused on the goal and actions. The professional, called a coach,
through the sessions, aims to help the coachee develop self-knowledge,
always considering that the greatest expert on one's own history is
the client, therefore the coach is based on suspending any and all judgment
so that it is possible to honor and respect the client's history and thereby allow
create a reliable and confidential environment so that it is feasible to produce and extract what

there is better in the client, whether through self-knowledge tools,

human development or through positive sponsorships.
During the sessions, it is essential that the coachee is committed, as the
coaching - unlike other methodologies - starts 'from the inside out' and, therefore,
this, for the results to be achieved, depends a lot on the focus and the
commitment of the client to act, to put into action the steps to achieve
results. It is up to the coach to always listen in essence, to suspend judgments
in the face of mistakes and love, recognizing the client's actions to be able to create rapport
of a more effective soul, allowing for a stronger connection and strengthening what exists
better in the coaching.

The expected results are always self-knowledge, as coaching has

as a principle, not to give the ready knowledge to the coachee but rather to teach them to

search for answers within oneself. Therefore, the coaching process is a

long-term teaching methodology, as the client begins to have self-awareness
and the self-confidence needed to create a results-oriented mindset,
regardless of whether the coach is present or not. The sessions last on average
10 weeks and are held weekly, with either an in-person or online session,
it depends on the methodology used by the coach and the objective of the coachee.

2 COACHING

2.1 WHAT IS NECESSARY IN A COACHING SESSION

Coaching is the art of making agreements, initially starting from this principle, what is
necessary for a Coaching process is an agreement between the parties (coach
the coachee) about what the objective of this process is and what the agreements will be

(dates for the sessions, commitment to the process, possible

problems and difficulties that the coachee might initially have, ...). From this
moment, it is necessary to have an environment of trust and connection (flow) between them,
as well as the commitment to give and receive. The coachee needs to have,
essentially, a goal for the professional to assist you in this
contract, otherwise, the sessions will not have expected purposes and results,
Consequently, it will not be possible to measure the client's evolution during the
process, making assertive feedback impossible.
The coach needs to suspend any and all types of judgment, as this way the
connection happens in a more satisfying way, without awkwardness in saying or
upon hearing a fact, feeling, and thought. It is crucial that the coach listens to the coachee

in a broad and assertive manner, generating more clarity. The professional in the field needs to

maintain the confidentiality of what is said during the sessions, as the information

happen. The coach needs to be equipped with tools that awaken the essence
of the client and help him walk the path and seek the answers within himself. The
the role of the coach is to work in partnership, using methodologies and knowledge
from the most diverse areas of science to develop the client's self-knowledge
and, with that, generate motivation through consistent actions in pursuit of the goal.
13

2.2 WHAT ARE THE NECESSARY ELEMENTS

The coach must have the competence of confidentiality to perform the work with the

necessary behaviors for defined objectives to be achieved. This
It is necessary to create small challenges between one session and another, with the
goal of achieving the larger target, therefore, at the end of each session, one should create the

action plan.
At all these stages, the Coach needs to have the competence to be available to
support the coachee during challenges and assist them in facing the
limiting beliefs and mindset changes. Positive sponsorship and recognition
the results are very important so that the client does not give up on the process and, if
if any problem occurs along the way, the Coach needs to have the ability to
solving problems without jeopardizing the development of the coachee.
To avoid behavioral issues that prevent the customer from achieving their
objectives, the analysis of Values or the exploration of the coachee's beliefs is
important, because only after collecting this data, it is also possible

honoring your history), always providing positive reinforcement and support so that the

objectives are achieved in the most assertive way possible.

The Coach does not have as its main competencies the role of teaching, advising and
ser perito em determinado tópico, só precisa conseguir analisar as informações
brought up by the coachee and give them clarity through powerful questions and
feedback, that is, to be like a guide to the coachee helping him find his

answers.
14

2.3 WHAT ARE THE MAIN TOOLS

Coaching uses various fields of knowledge to engage and

enhance the talents of the coachee, always honoring and respecting their history
and, therefore, tools are created and adapted that seek to awaken the
unconscious (self 2) so that he can gain greater clarity about his strengths
and points of improvement. The entire Coaching process aims to break
invisible barriers created by the coachee that, therefore, hinder the accomplishment of
objectives. To this end, the coach uses various tools for achieving
results.
The main ones are:
Wheel of Life: It is used so that the coachee can have a macro view of all
aspects of your life and improve what you consider necessary to achieve greatness
performance in favor of the stipulated objective. The four aspects used to have the

current state and create the action plan focusing on the improvement of what the coachee
deems necessary for its development.
Coaching Assessment: It is the tool (software) that maps behaviors
of the individual. Through a simple questionnaire, the coachee is able to discover
what is your profile (analyst, planner, communicator, or executor) and, with this
information, you can take the necessary actions to enhance your skills
or develop others as needed.
Identification of Values, Mission and Purpose: They are characteristics and objectives that
they motivate certain thoughts or triggers and, therefore, are important for the
achieving expected results without major risks of losing focus on what
what is desired and respecting their particularities (Values).
Logbook: It is the tool used for the coachee to gain more clarity.
about your day and to develop the ability to plan the next steps with
more coherence and focus on the objective. Besides that, it allows for the perception of facts that

occurred during the day and generated a feeling of gratitude. And to have the opportunity

coachee to map their improvement points, gaining greater awareness of their
attitudes in various areas of life.

his own story, to cut the umbilical cord that may be holding the coachee back
to family standards, in addition to generating the perception of being able to create one's own story.

strategies to achieve the goals.
Powerful questions: It is a method of Socratic Maieutics that the coach uses to
generate reflection in the coachee, which is done through questions to the client so that they find

your own answers with the intention of awakening the unconscious and boosting the
potential, generating new neural connections and a change in mindset.

A GOOD COACHING SESSION

For a good coaching session, there are several factors involved, among them the
rapport, which is a relationship of connection, trust, and harmony between the coach and

coachee. For a good rapport, the coach must be fully attentive to the world of
coachee and listen to what he truly wants to say, what is behind the words
so that coach and coachee can attune to each other, in a state of full attention

Niches are market segments where the professional chooses to practice their

Normally, the professional who already has experience in the health field, for example,

An important factor that the coach can assist in this niche is helping students with

7 CINE COACHING

Film Coaching is a tool used by the coach to

encourage the coachee to watch a movie that is typically related to their
process, these films are powerful metaphors that bring greater understanding to
coach with topics related to the process.
These are examples of movies that can be used in a process of
Coaching:

7.1 CONVERSING WITH GOD

O filme conta a história de Neale, um profissional que após sofrer acidente de carro,
he became unemployed and had to live with the homeless in a camp.
With qualifications, but unable to find a job, Neale had to rely on the
support from other homeless people to manage to get by.
Until the day that - by coincidence - Neale contacts the company to
to know if you could apply for the DJ position. From there, your life begins to
improve again, until, after a while working at this radio station, discovers
that she went bankrupt and Neale is unemployed again.
At this moment, he questions God about everything and then begins to hear a voice.
what makes him write texts and more texts that later caught the attention of
literary agents, causing these texts to become books of great value
financial.
We realized that when analyzing the context of the film, the voice that made him write nothing

but it was more about your spiritual side, as well as the elevation of the capacity to
hear what was inside oneself. It is what the coachee needs to improve to achieve their
goals, only when we take responsibility for our lives and start to

financial, which is relational wealth, as every person who entered Neale's life
can teach him something. The Universe is abundant in every way, you just need to have
the sensitivity to understand, accept, and respect our history.

7.2 POWER BEYOND LIFE

The film tells the story of the athlete Dan Millman who aims to participate in the
Olympic Games as a gymnast. With excellent grades in college, desired by
many girls, from a wealthy family and with friends, Dan ends up becoming a person
quite egocentric and superficial.
It is clear your dissatisfaction with life, especially due to the fact that you project your

happiness for the future, always focusing on the Olympic medal and feeling
invincible in all areas. One night, after having nightmares, Dan decides to run
and encounters Socrates, a man who begins to question his beliefs and

to realize that the journey is more important than the destination, that all the
answers already exist within you and it is always important to take time for the
introspection to absorb and reshift a certain event. There is also the
teaching of congruence, as after being robbed and Dan questioning
Socrates, the reason he did not react against the assailants, the man repeats the

7.3 WHO WE ARE

It is a documentary with interviews that shows everything that science, philosophers, and

religious people know about man and humanity up to this moment. Involving
topics such as neurology, psychology, theology, quantum physics, quantum mechanics

How to understand our emotions? This documentary follows a narrative in which
a character named Amanda, a photographer and deaf, goes through daily life of
your work and live new experiences, with a new beginning and different
perspectives. Driven by interviews and testimonies, based on the
Neuroscience and Quantum Physics, by various specialists and scientific scholars.
They discuss the roots and meanings of the experiences lived by Amanda.
the main objective of the entire film/documentary is to lead us to the idea that we

the results, we need to necessarily change our behavior. But
for this it is essential to access and understand our essence,
our life mission, our goals and our long-term objectives. To, with
this, we change our schedule and, as a consequence, we also change
our mindset.

7.4 THE GOOD WAVE

It is a fiction that tells the story of a

boy who, when challenged by his teacher to come up with an idea that
transformed the world, created a game called 'Pass it on'.
In this game, he had to help three people. And in return, he asked each of them for
people who would choose three other people to pass it on, that is,
also help other people.
In a surprising way, the idea works and actually starts to be

involved by the "Pass it on." Drawing the attention of the whole city, journalists
and even from the national press.

At one point, the boy thinks it didn't work because he thinks

not being able to help a beggar and his own mother. It's when his teacher
starts to show you the transformations that have occurred in people due to
attitude started by the boy.
So it also happens that all of us, when we do something good and
positive in the sense of helping someone. Even if there is no thanks in the
moment, positive changes can happen to the person we help and
naturally she will also be able to help others.

7.5 THE FIRE TEST

It is a fiction about a very brave fire captain who

of love.
In the first days of the 40-day process, he thinks several times about

We can say that this heroic fire captain passed, as

The Celestine Prophecy

The film tells the story of John Woodson, a teacher, who after being fired begins
a search for the Peruvian manuscripts. From then on, it is possible to realize the
the protagonist's change and his great evolution in the journey, as he goes from
incredulous to live 100% that philosophy of the Celestine Prophecy and begins to feel
all the energy described in the manuscripts.
There is much talk about energy and the evil that exists in the world; about people stealing the

environment we are inserted in. It is possible to see, through energy, the state of

they observe the world not only with their eyes and rationality, but
also with the mind and soul. In this way, the world expands, just as the
possibilities, because through self 2 we can walk towards our
purpose, simply requiring the use of intuition, sensitivity, and listening to the Universe.

Basically, the movie talks about the need to focus on our inner self,
expand energy, connect with other people and with the Universe. It is a way
to expand consciousness, expand the area where we can interfere and impact.
For the Coaching process, the energy exchange and the clarity that can be achieved with
the tools used, all of this, is our Prophecy in practice in the sessions,
always in a state of Flow and following the coachee's evolution on this journey
of self-knowledge.

7.8 TALENTED HANDS

This film tells the life of Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon. The interesting part is
that the story begins at the point where he is a recognized professional in the field,
then, the movie begins to tell the childhood of Ben and shows that not even
The doctor has always been recognized for his talent. With low grades and the belief
limited to being a stupid and incapable boy, Ben was ridiculed by his peers,
but the support of my mother was something important in this phase, because - even with little education

she was able to bring out the best in her son and there is a phrase that the mother always used to say

thought that Ben strives to become the best neurosurgeon he can be
be.
In the film, it is possible to see the evolution not only of Ben but also of his mother herself, as

upon encountering the library at the boss's house, decides to set a goal to
the children (read 2 books and write a summary of the reading) and, with that, changed a bad habit

for a good one, that is, instead of spending their free time watching
television, the boys started to use that time for something useful and discovered their
potential. The mother, in turn, began to learn how to read as well. Both broke
the barrier of limiting belief and began to strive even more to
to find the best version they could be.
It is noted that Ben, even with all his knowledge, still felt fear in front of the
challenges, however he faced his fears and did not let himself be paralyzed in the face of
surgeries that changed the course of the field of neuroscience, thus becoming one of the
31

best and most respected doctors in the field. To achieve this, it was necessary to focus on your.

purpose, to have self-knowledge to know what your greatest quality was and what

to deal with problems and difficulties.
It is interesting to notice the coaching work of Ben's mother, who used tools
(through the weekly reading goals) to change the child's belief pattern and
used positive sponsorships to support and encourage them in critical moments,
changing the child's mindset and making him realize the immense capacity and talent in
yes. With that, Ben not only dreamed big, but acted in such a way that he became a
great man; regardless of the social class he was born into, race, or difficulties
and of fears.

7.9 FUNNY

The film tells the story of Riley, a girl who is moving and this begins to
generate various confusions in her feelings. The highlight of the narrative is that the
the story takes place not only in the girl's external world, but also within her.
your own head.
At the moment the story begins, the girl comes to have 5 emotions: Joy,
Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. And these emotions are responsible for generating the

information and store it as memories, also creating identities.

The interesting thing is to note that each memory has an emotion and they can change.

According to the events, that is, a happy memory can become sad.
It is also possible to notice that each emotion has its own light and shadow.
we realize that every emotion is essential for life, for example, anger serves
to deal with injustices, the disgust to free us from the risk of eating something
ruined, joy brings softness to life at the opportune moments, sadness
allows us to deal with the bad things that will inevitably happen in life.
In the animation, we notice that Joy often ends up suffocating ...
Sadness, all of this without realizing its importance, for sadness allows us to be
vulnerable and this, in the movie, is demonstrated through Riley's anger, being that the
the most appropriate feeling would be of Sadness and, therefore, only in the end the parents

they can feel empathy for their daughter. Another point for reflection, with this act of
suppressing sadness, it is what we can notice in our society the demand for us to be
32

always happy, and when sadness arrives there is a feeling of guilt and suffocation,
instead of seeking through it a reflection, deep introspection about the reason
from that feeling and, who knows, demonstrate vulnerability.
In other words, if you are sad, it's okay.

7.10 COACH CARTER

grades in all subjects, have respectful behavior and good manners

the school basketball begins to win and stand out in games and competitions. But
when coach Carter discovers that some of his students are performing poorly

with the help of Coach Bernd Isert, the level of Affiliation was added. Currently
we have these levels: Environment, Behavior, Capabilities/Skills,
Beliefs/Values, Identity, Affiliation, and Legacy. To facilitate understanding of the
levels, I will talk about them individually and in detail:

- Environment: It is the 1st level of the pyramid also considered as the 'Level of
Superficiality. It is the level of reaction, where the external stimulus has the ability to
impact our reactions. For example, if a person says they feel depressed,
in this case, the coach must use the question that the level requires: Where, when and in

in what situations does he feel this way. If the depressive behavior occurs in a
specific environment, so we can consider that it is at the reaction level. The
the coach needs to know what the external sensory trigger is that generates this type of reaction
no coachee. At this level, the Coach acts as a GUIDE, as they help the coachee to

identify limits and opportunities in daily life.

Behavior: The 2nd level of the pyramid can also be called "Level of
Relationships, as it talks about a person's conduct in a certain context. It is
the pattern of behavior, as the person exhibits the same behavior in
various environments and contexts, thus, she moves from level 1 to level
2, because it addresses not only the reaction to something, but also the action and reaction. Some tips on

questions we can ask are: Is your behavior generating what

Do you wish? Is your attitude consistent with your speech?
At this level, the Coach acts as a trainer, as the focus is on the performance of the coachee.

in a determined situation.
34

Skills and Abilities: The 3rd level can also be referred to as "Level of
Knowledge. If you believe that you have the ability to learn a certain
subject, you will seek knowledge to acquire wisdom and, therefore, you will have the
behavior to focus and develop a new skill. If a person does not

You will need to raise the level, as it is about Beliefs. When one believes in the ability
of having a new skill, thus the person begins to develop techniques and
strategies to learn something. The suggested questions are: Are you a consultant for
you yourself? What capabilities and skills would be essential for you today?

of the coachee with the intention of developing general cognitive skills

Beliefs and Values: The 4th level can also be referred to as "Level of
Meanings. The values are your motivation and the reason why a person does what they do.
what motivates him to do what he does. He guides the capabilities, through the
behaviors, in the environments. Beliefs are prophecies, it is a generalist view
of the world, of people, and of oneself, after all, it is our individual truth. Beliefs are

thoughts endowed with energy, faith, and emotion, which serve to help you see the
the world is to judge what is possible and what is not. Beliefs either enable or
development of your capacity and skills, or they generate self-sabotage. The
belief often occurs unconsciously and can be separated into
types, such as: Identity beliefs, capability beliefs and beliefs of
merit. And the question to identify the belief can be: How much do your
Do beliefs allow you to reach where you want to go?
At this level, the Coach acts as a mentor, as his main role is to help the
coachee to overcome their own beliefs, resistances, and achieve results.

Identity: The 5th level also known as "Clarity Level of my

"papers." It questions who we are, is connected to the sense of "self" and having a
mission. At this level, the change is at the unconscious level. The question that may be
made is: "Who are you?" It is worth remembering that the "environments" represent your limits,

the "behaviors" define your actions, your "capabilities" represent your

strategies and their "beliefs and values" represent your motivation and permission, while the
35

"identity" truly defines who you are, your mission, after all, we are
our essence.
At this level, the Coach acts as a sponsor (focus on the positive), as they assist the
coachee to recognize their role in the world, to find their true "self"

Affiliation: The 6th level also called 'Positioning Level Within the
Systems/Affiliation. It is our origin, who our ancestors are, what my
group, those who are part of my life, after all, are the ones with whom we share life.
At this level, the person gains a clear understanding of themselves through the groups in
which she belongs to. We can ask at this level: Do you honor and respect your
history?
At this level, the Coach acts as an AGGLUTINATOR, as their role is to help the
coachee to join their "self" with the group "self," of something greater.

Legacy: The 7th level also called "Level of Spirituality". It is the level where
the person begins to have a greater sense of how impossible it is to reach the meaning of
life without thinking about the whole. Here at this level, the questioning about meaning and
purposes are crucial, as the person already knows they are part of the whole process, they have
a more systemic vision. It is the level of transmission. The questions that can be
used, are: Who else do you live for? Who else do you want to impact? Who is
your whole?
At this level, the Coach acts as SELF EMPOWERMENT, as he gives power to the
coachee to raise self-esteem and highlight their positive points
