WHAT IS WINDOWS 7?

■ Windows 7 is an operating system that Microsoft has produced for use on personal computers. It is the
follow-up to the Windows Vista Operating System, which was released in 2006. An operating system allows
your computer to manage software and perform essential tasks. It is also a Graphical User Interface (GUI)
that allows you to visually interact with your computer’s functions in a logical, fun, and easy way.
☐ For example, in Windows 7 you can view two windows side by side by using the Aero Snap feature. This
feature automatically sizes-or snaps-two windows to fit together on the screen, allowing you the convenience
of viewing them next to each other.
WINDOWS 2007 VERSION

WHAT IS WINDOWS 10?

Windows 10 is the most recent version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. There have been many
different versions of Windows over the years, including Windows 8 (released in 2012), Windows 7 (2009),
Windows Vista (2006), and Windows XP (2001). While older versions of Windows mainly ran on desktop and
laptop computers, Windows 10 is also designed to run equally well on tablets.

■ An operating system is the most important software that runs on a computer. It manages the computer’s
memory and processes, as well as all of its software and hardware. It also allows you to communicate with
the computer without knowing how to speak the computer’s language. Without an operating system, a
computer is useless.
Whereas Windows 8 uses the Start screen to launch applications, Windows 10 has reintroduced a more
traditional Start menu. It’s also been expanded to make it easier to find important apps.

MICROSOFT EDGE
■This new browser is designed to give Windows users a better experience on the Web. It’s faster, more
secure, and includes a lot of new features. Microsoft Edge is meant to replace Internet Explorer as your
default web browser, but you’ll still be able to use another browser if you prefer.

CORTANA
Similar to Siri and Google Now, you can talk to this virtual assistant with your computer’s microphone.
Cortana can answer questions like What’s the weather like today?, perform simple tasks like remind you to
take out the trash, and much more.

MULTIPLE DESKTOPS AND TASK VIEW

■Instead of keeping everything open on the same desktop, you can move some of your windows to a virtual
desktop to get them out of the way. And the new Task view feature makes it easy to manage all of your open
windows.

ACTION CENTER
■The new Action Center is pretty different from previous versions of Windows. For example, it’s been
expanded to let you access frequently used settings, such as Wi-Fi connectivity and tablet mode It’s also
where you’ll see important notifications, so if your computer receives an update you’ll get a notification
about it here.

TABLET MODE
■Unlike Windows 8, Windows 10 makes a clear distinction between desktops and tablets. If you’re using a
keyboard and mouse with Windows 10, you’ll be in desktop mode by default. If your computer also has a
touchscreen, you can go into tablet mode at any time. Tablet users can also switch back to desktop mode if
they prefer.

Applying the procedures on Drivers/ Software Updating

Importance of updating the driver/ software of the computer.

1. Patch security flaws – Security is the No. 1 reason to update software immediately. Software
vulnerabilities enable cybercriminals to access a person’s computer. Threat actors see these
vulnerabilities as open doors, enabling them to plant malware on people’s systems.
2. Get new features – Installing updates may add new features and remove old ones that are no longer
necessary. Technology is constantly changing, and updates offer the latest features and improvements.
3. Protect data – If a threat actor gets in through a software security flaw, they will search for personal
data such as financial information, passwords, usernames or other documents with sensitive
information.
Threat actors access personal accounts and sell sensitive information on the dark web. Updating software
to improve security vulnerabilities enables data to be better protected.
4. Improve performance – Not all patches are security related. Software vendors may find bugs in a
program or need to make necessary enhancements to a program. These patches help improve the
performance of the software. Software updates may help fix bugs before they happen. These are some
common types of bugs.
Electronic devices also need regular maintenance and routine updates to run their best. Having the latest
patches can help prevent software from crashing.
5. Ensure compatibility – Software manufacturers send updates to ensure their software is compatible with
the latest technology. Without updates, older software may not be able to work with newer technology.

These differences result in Windows 10 offering a slightly more streamlined experience for multitasking and organization, catering to more modern needs in terms of app usage and workspace management .

Windows 7 and Windows 10 have notable differences in their user interface and functionalities. Windows 7 introduced the Aero Snap feature, which allows users to view two windows side by side easily by snapping them to fit the screen. It also features a revised taskbar offering Jump Lists for easy access to frequently used files, and Libraries to organize and access different file types. Windows 10, on the other hand, reintroduced a more traditional Start menu compared to Windows 8 and expanded it to facilitate finding important apps quickly. It also introduced new features like the Action Center for notifications and settings access, and the Edge browser aimed to replace Internet Explorer .

Windows 7 offers basic accessibility features such as a basic on-screen keyboard, a screen magnifier, and a simple set of speech recognition controls primarily for controlling the computer and basic text dictation. Windows 10 enhanced these accessibility tools significantly by integrating Cortana for voice commands, offering more advanced speech recognition capabilities. It also refined usability features like the expanded Action Center for quick access to settings like adaptive display settings and a revamped on-screen keyboard with auto-completion and swipe features for better accessibility. These enhancements in Windows 10 offer a more comprehensive approach to address a wider array of accessibility needs and make the system more adaptive to individual user requirements .

Windows 7 introduced Libraries, which are virtual folders that aggregate content from various directories under common categories such as documents, music, pictures, and videos. This feature helps users by organizing files without needing to physically move them, making searching and accessing related files related more straightforward. Windows 10 builds on this with enhanced search functionalities and intuitive file management tools such as Quick Access, which automatically lists the most used folders and documents. Additionally, the File Explorer in Windows 10 is more integrated with OneDrive, providing better cloud storage management options directly tied into the file system interface, thus supporting more dynamic and complex file management practices .

Windows 7 introduced "Windows Touch," which allowed users to interact with the operating system using touch gestures on compatible touch-screen PCs. It was an early implementation of multi-touch technology that supported gestures like pinching and zooming. In Windows 10, this concept evolved significantly with the introduction of "Tablet Mode," which provides a seamless transition between desktop and touch interfaces. Tablet Mode optimizes the user interface for touch input by enlarging icons and optimizing the overall layout for touchscreen use, thus reflecting a matured integration of touch technology across devices, enhancing user experience in both touch and conventional desktop modes .

Microsoft Edge, introduced with Windows 10, represents a significant upgrade from Internet Explorer used in Windows 7. Designed to provide a faster, more secure web browsing experience, Edge offers features such as built-in PDF reader, annotation tools, and a reading mode to enhance content consumption. Edge integrates seamlessly with Cortana for contextual search results, further enhancing user interaction with web content.
