Cutting Machines
A Crusher is a machine designed to reduce
large rocks into smaller rocks, gravel.
Principle- Compression
A primary crusher operates on run-of -mine material
accepting anything that comes from mine face and
breaking it into 150 to 250 mm lumps.
A secondary crusher reduces these lumps into
particles perhaps 6mm in size.
Crushing devices hold material between two parallel
or tangent solid surfaces.
Examples:
1. Jaw Crusher
2. Gyratory crusher
3. Smooth-roll Crusher
4. Toothed-roll Crusher
Mostly the crushers are used in Heavy mining, sand & gravel,
recycling etc.
A Grinder is a machine which reduce crushed
feed to powder form.
Principle- Impact
Mostly used for obtaining intermediate and
fine particles.
Often the feeding material fed is the product
of a crusher.
The grinder gives us a product which passes
through 40 mesh screen and from a fine
grinder 200 mesh screen.
Examples:
1. Hammer mill
2. Rolling Compression mill
3. Attrition mill
4. Tumbling mill
Mostly used in food processing,
chemical processing industries
etc.
These are the machines which accepts the
feed material of size less than 6 mm and
yields a product of size 1-50 m.
Principle- Attrition
Examples:
1. Hammer mill with internal or external
classification
2. Fluid energy mill
3. Agitated mill
Mostly used in mining, metallurgy, cement,
construction, etc.
Cutting machines are used where the feed
stocks are too resilient to be broken down.
Principle- Cutting
Therefore the feed should be reduced to
particles of definite size usually 2 to 10 mm in
length.
Examples:
1. Knife cutters
2. Dicers
3. Slitters
Mostly used in rubber and plastic
industries and recycling of paper
and plastic materials.
