Article XI

THE TEACHER AS A PERSON

Section 1: A teacher is, above all, a human being endowed with life
for which it is the highest obligation to live with dignity at all times
whether in school, in home, or else where

Section 2: A teacher shall place a premium upon self-discipline as the

primary principle of personal behavior in all relationship with others in
all situations.

Section 3: A teacher shall maintain at all times a dignified personality

that could serve as a model worthy of emulation by learners, peers and
all others.

Section 4: A teacher shall always recognize the almighty God as a

guide of his own destiny and of the destinies of men and the nation
The important lessons that you must learn from article XI
1. Every teacher serves as a role model to students, co-
workers, and other people, in school and the community.
Thus, every teacher should live with dignity
2. Living with dignity is living with self-respect and self-
worth
3. Self-respect and self-worth are manifested in self-
discipline.
4. Self-discipline is having self-control or the inner strength
t0 control oneself against all temptations. It is also the
ability to focus intently on a task or goal.
Analyze and Respond
Situation : Miss Z, a God-fearing secondary teacher for
20 years, was given the “Model Teacher Award by the
department of education and the Civil Service Commission
due to her exemplary work and dignified behavior both in
school and in the community, What do you think made her
a model teacher ? What will you do to be a Model
Teacher ?
Q1. Miss Z received an accolade for the reason that she is a
teacher worth and deserving for such recognition. She never
strayed with her vow and commitment to the teaching profession.
With Miss Z possessing qualities like being God-oriented and a
role model not only in her school but in the community, she
showed her dedication on her mission as a teacher, who's
responsibilities doesn't end after office hours which is truly
admirable. She exhibits a behaviour directly inclined to the Code of
Ethics. A dignified professional teacher with discipline. Attributes
that a standard Philippine Professional Teacher should manifest.
Q2. To be a model teacher, is not an easy reputation and obligation to
uphold. The pressure of always abiding with doing what is right basing
with what's good will be constantly expected for an educator to
conduct in the course of his/her service. In that note, for a teacher to
be exemplary to one's field, one should exert effort and apply the
virtue of self-discipline. This implies the need to follow the Code of
Ethics at all times and situations. Furthermore, in response with Article
XI: Teacher as a Person, an educator should embody the traits such
as God-fearing, someone who knows one's self-worth and self-
respect and will never taint the teaching profession's image with
immoral acts. That mindset serves as our guide as we say, what we
do, how we think and what we genuinely feel going forth in this path.
Key Points

1. The Code of Ethics Article XI:

Teacher As A Person, inputs the
significance of practicing the act
of upholding dignity.
.
2. Its is divided by four Sections,
wherein it serves as a guide for
teachers and new teachers to
determine the best action in the
midst of circumstances where
ethical implications will surface.
3. The values highlighted in this section is dignity, self-
discipline, self-worth and God-fearing. Living a life and
being a teacher who imperatively follows this set of
principles capture the essence of our teachers as a
person in the learning community.
As stated in Deped Tambayan (2021),
"Teachers have great influence in the lives of
their learners. They are expected to be
professionally competent in the practice of
their profession. Moreover, they need also to
possess good reputation not only in the school
but in the entire community" .
