OVERVIEW OF THE FIRST PROJECT REVIEW PRESENTATION

In the previous presentation,

We had been discussed the

 Introduction about project, site and materials used for construction.
 Construction steps, Diaphragam wall, Structural and Non structural elements,
Block Masonry, Coping, Plaster in super structure.
 Shuttering, Reinforcement, Concreting in slab, beam, column, shear walls.
 Check List of slab, beam, column & shear wall for shuttering and reinforcment
work.

In this presentation,

 We discussed about office work that done during construction phase.

OFFICE WORK

CALCULATION OF CONCRETE QUANTITY:-

 For Column,Shear Walls & Lift:

 First we need to find column’s dimensions from drawings.

 In dimensions we need Length,Width & Height.
 Formula, Quantity (volume) = L x W x H
 Quantity need to be in m^3.
 Floor height = 3900 mm
 Let’s take example of one column C2
 In drawing length= 0.9 m
 width = 0.9 m
 Height = floor height - beam depth
 = 3.9 - 0.9 = 3 m
 Quantity = L x B x H = 0.9 x 0.9 x 3 = 2.43 cum
 In this we substract beam depth from floor height
because beam and slab cast together.
 Also we need to calculate adjoining pardi and non
structural column while calculating column or shear
wall concete quantity.
Fig.- Plan of
8th floor
 For Beams :
 First we need find beam’s dimension from beam
to beam plan.
 In this case we need beam’s length,width &
depth.
 The drawing only shows the length of beam
between two columns.
 However we also need to consider both column’s
width.
 Let’s take example of Beam B1
 which , Length = 6 m
 Width = 0.3 m
 Depth = 0.9 m
 Quantity = (length + 2*Shear wall’s width) x
Width x Depth
 = (6+2*0.3) x 0.3 x 0.9
 =1.782 cum
For Slab:

 slab’s dimension can be taken from drawing as

In to In dimension.
 No we need slab’s length , breadth & thickness.
 Let’s take example of S4 slab,
 Length = 5.275 m
 Breadth = 3.35 m
 Thickness = 0.125 m
 Quantity = L x B x T = 5.275 x 3.35 x 0.125 =
2.21 cum

Fig.- Slab plan

Plan of 8th floor

For 8th floor:

 Total concrete quantity for column, shear

walls & lift = 110.7 cum
 Total concrete quantity for beams quantity
= 69.376 cum
 Total concrete quantity for slab = 74.636
cum

 Total concrete quantity = 272.46 cum

Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)

 Calculation of the total quantity of TMT Steel Bar required for building
construction is termed as Bar Bending Schedule.
 Weight of steel bar per meter find by d^2/162 where d=dia. of bar.
 If dia of bar increase then weight of bar also increase due to bar’s density.
 When we bend a steel bar, the length of the bar slightly increased due to
stretching in the bending area.
 The expansion of length depends on the grade of steel and the degree of bend.
The length increases with the increase of bending degree and decreases with
the higher grade steel.
1. For 45° bend = 1 x d
2. For 90° bend = 2 x d
3. For 135° Bend = 3 x d
4. For 180° bend = 4 x d where, d is dia of bar.
For slab:

 First we need structural drawing of slab for preparing

BBS.
 Let’s take example of S8 slab
 S8 slab’s dimension is 3320 mm x 4745 mm .
 As we can see in this drawing slab is Two-way slab.
 That’s why in both direction main reinforcment bars are
placed.
 In drawing crank and straight bar shown that represent
in slab crank and straight bar placed as alternative.
 In drawing two types bar shown A & B.

Fig. - Structural
Drawing
 What this A bar represent that we can understand by
this table.
 In table A bar means 8mm dia. at 150 mm c/c with
alternative bent up at bottom.
 Now number of A type of bars = Opp. slab length/spacing
+1
 = 4745/150 + 1
 = 32
 Number of crank bar = 16 & Number of straight bar = 16 .
 Cutting length of crank bar = slab’s length+ width of 2
sides beam
 + 0.42D - 2 beam’s
side cover
 Here, D = slab thickness - 2 clear cover - Dia. of bar
 = 125 - 2*25 - 8 = 67mm
 Cutting Length = 3320+230+300+0.42*67-
2*25=3828mm=3.828m
 Weight of bar = d^2/162 x cutting length
 = 8*8/162 x 3.828 = 1.51 kg
 Total weight of crank bars = 16*1.51 = 24.20 kg
For beam:

 we need beam detailing drawing.

 Here, we take Beam B12 for example.
 From fig. we can get dia. of main bar and
stirrups and number of main bar.
 Here, Main bar is 3 with 12mm dia. in top and
bottom.
 Stirrups dia. is 8 mm with 175mm c/c .

Fig.- Beam Detailing

Drawing
 Cutting length of top main bar = beam’s length - 2 c.c.
 + 2 (beam depth - 2 c.c.)
 - 2*(2d) for 90 angle bend
 = 2030-50+2(300-50)-48
= 2432mm=2.432m
 Weight of top main bar = No. x d^2/162 x CL
= 3x12*12/162 x 2.432
 = 6.49 kg
 Stirrups cutting length = 2(beam width + beam depth -
4clear cover)+2 hook length(20d)
- Bend (12d)
 = 2(300+230-100)+160-92
=924mm=0.924m
 Stirrups number = clear span length/spacing +1 Fig. Of Stirrup
 =1500/175+1=9
 Stirrups weight = No. x d^2/162 x CL = 3.29 kg
For column :

 We need column detailing drawing for perparing

BBS.
 First we need to find which column detail we want.
 Let’s take 9th floor C2 column.
 In fig. C2 column total 32 main bar used where 12 is
25mm dia and 20 is 20mm dia bars.
 Cutting length of main bar = 4 m+ Overlapping
 length(50d)
 For 25mm dia bar,
 CL = 4 + 50*0.025 = 5.25 m Column
 weight of bar = No. x CL x d^2/162 Detailing
 = 12 x 5.25 x 25*25/162 = Drawing
243.06 kg
Calculation of shuttering quantity:
 Shuttering quantity calculated in sq.m
 For quantity we need only two dimension of member.
 In column we calculate area of four sides of column and
summation of this area give us required shuttering
quantity.
 Using plan we determine column’s perimeter and
height = floor height - beam depth then area =
perimeter x height .
 In slab we only calculate bottom area of slab that area
is our shuttering quantity.
 For slab we take slab’s length and width from plan and
calculate it’s area.
 In beam we need three different area which are beam
bottom and sides of beam.
 Sides of beam can be two types 1. outer side, 2. Inner
side
 Beam outer side shuttering depth will be more than
beam acutual depth.
 slab plan
 Beam outer side shuttering area = (Beam depth + 100mm)xLength
of beam between two
columns
 Beam inner side shuttering depth will be less compare to the actual
depth of beam.
 Inner side shuttering area = (beam depth - adjoining slab thickness)
x length of beam between two columns
 Beam bottom shuttering area = width x length

For 8th floor :

 Shuttering for column and shear wall = 852.38 Sq.m

 Shuttering for slab = 501.65 Sq.m
 Shuttering for beam = 17046.82 Sq.m
 Total shuttering quantity for 8th floor = 18400.85 Sq.m
