Conscientia Counselling is a group practice providing counselling services in Calgary. We offer two tiers of services.
We provide services by fully accredited and registered professionals- CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellors).
Working with Certified professionals is important because, when receiving psychological services in Calgary or anywhere else, you need to ensure the provider is regulated by a professional body. This provides safety and accountability, so if something goes wrong, you have someone to talk to and can file a complaint if necessary.
We also offer affordable therapy services in Calgary, provided by master ‘s-level interns who are completing their degree in counselling psychology. These interns are supervised by one of our staff members.
The benefit of using an intern is lower fees. For example, a registered psychologist in Calgary might charge $175 to $235 per hour, while an intern offers services for $40 per hour. The quality of services remains the same, but since they are not yet registered, the fees are lower.
We recognize that access to counselling can sometimes be a privilege, especially in Calgary, where psychological services can be expensive, particularly if you don’t have insurance benefits to cover the cost.
It is our attempt to reach clients who could not afford to get the help they need. It is our way to contribute to our Calgary community’s growth.
Yes, many counselling services in Calgary are covered by extended health In some cases, we can direct bill the benefit company.
Coverage, however depends on your plan. At Conscientia we are Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC) and psychotherapists. It’s best to check with your insurance provider for details.
Counselling fees in Calgary typically range from $120 to $300 per session, depending on the therapist’s qualifications and experience. Our clinic, offer sliding scale options and low-cost therapy through interns. Our certified counsellor fees are $165-$175 per 50 min, and our interns offer affordable therapy for $40 per 50 min session
Most counselling sessions last between 50 to 60 minutes, but we also offer 80-90 min sessions. The frequency and duration of therapy depend on your goals and the nature of the issues being addressed.
Counselling can help with a variety of emotional and psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, stress, trauma, self-esteem, parenting challenges, and career or life transitions.
In your first session, the therapist will ask about your concerns, background, and goals. First sessions intend to build rapport, discuss confidentiality, and create a plan for moving forward in your therapeutic journey.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling emotionally, counselling can offer support, new perspectives, and practical tools to improve your well-being. Many people benefit from even a few sessions to gain clarity and direction.
Yes, many Calgary therapists offer culturally sensitive counselling and work with diverse populations, including newcomers, immigrants, Indigenous clients, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
A psychologist is a regulated health professional with a master’s or doctoral degree and is registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists. A counsellor or therapist may have similar qualifications but may be certified through different associations. All can provide talk therapy, but licensing and insurance coverage may vary. At this moment, there is no regulating body (like CAP or ACSW for Social Workers) for Counselling Therapists. However, make sure your therapist is at least a Certified Canadian Counsellor.
Yes, counselling is confidential and adheres to strict ethical and legal guidelines. Exceptions to confidentiality include risks of harm to self or others, or situations involving abuse or neglect, as required by Alberta law.
The length of therapy depends on your individual goals and challenges. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (6–12 sessions), while others choose to continue long-term for deeper personal growth.
