Abstract

This paper analyzes the governance and upgrading mechanisms in Toyota Argentina's value chain, based on a case study focused on its network of local suppliers. Using a mixed methodological approach that combines in-depth interviews, direct observation, document analysis, and sector databases, three types of relationships between the terminal and its suppliers are identified: modular, relational, and captive, determined by the type of company, product architecture, and technological capabilities of the firms. The paper identifies different scaling processes among auto parts firms, but with limitations in the development of more complex activities in the country.
