What do we do
The Research and Insight team was created to better understand student experiences at the University of Manchester. Student feedback allows us to identify ways the SU can improve student experiences. We gather these insights through interactive surveys, focus groups, social media polls, and other innovative methods.
We also conduct market research and provide commercial and organisational insights to the SU. This includes gathering feedback on recent SU events, offering insights into consumer trends for SU's commercial services, and examining staff relations to promote job satisfaction and engagement.

Who we are
The team consists of permanent research staff, including the Head of Research and Insight (Ruth Fernandes), Senior Research and Insight Coordinator (Louie Pereira), and the Research and Insight Coordinator for Academic Experience (Anna Melenikiotou). They are supported by a team of eight student researchers and three student data analysts, who provide evidence-based data to help our officers and departments with their campaigns and projects.
Student priority annual report
Over the past year, we’ve heard from more than 18,000 students through key research projects such as Educate MCR, Build Your MCR, Decolonise the Curriculum, the International Student Survey, and the Student Leadership Survey; and through 1536 academic reps that represent 48,000 students at the University, talking about their experiences in 236 SSLC reports. These insights reveal how students engage with learning, manage financial pressures, navigate well-being challenges, and prepare for life after university.
