Well, S2 is more of the same, so while my review is negative, if you (for whatever reason) liked S1 - you will like this one too. Now to the details.

Characters. S1 had lots of them, but next to no personality or development for anyone. S2 rolls in and offers several personal arcs, but executes them horribly: excluding the girl that has recent events that weight her mind, the rest of the crew in their respective arcs suddenly get a personal problem that came out of thin air with no build up, spew generic empty words for half an episode, have one fight - and their problem is now completely solved while the character in question got a power-up. It feels extremely cheap and causes nothing but irritation.
World/monsters. The same problems as S1 - somehow a society that has been living under a constant kaiju threat is completely unprepared for assaults, enemies pop up without a single warning but humanity refuses to learn the lesson or do something about it. As for kaijus - again, the strongest is just some dude in an animator suit, and if you came into an anime named Kaiju expecting kaijus - well, jokes on you, even when present they are just big targets, not an enemy anyone cares about.
Fights. We are constantly shown lots of low-ranked guys doing zero damage while waiting for a named character to show up and oneshot the target. Is it fun? No, it is not. And it is even less fun to get a cliffhanger ending of the season in the middle of the final fight. Sure, you want to sell a movie for further profits, but what the hell man, have at least some decency. Overall - there are no memorable fights, because they are saved for the last season/movie, the fights that we got are extremely lame.
Plot. Still predictable with obvious development and no sudden turns. Sure, it is functional, but it is boring to watch.

Overall: S2 is a continuation of S1, but instead of developing whatever good things it had it just stagnates. It was boring to watch and the abrupt ending feels like an insult.
