yeah, i love having music themed to areas of a site, but over the years my opinion on autoplay that is on by default has soured. methinks that sort of thing should be able to be opted into by the visitor, at least optional

my browser allows me to mute specific sites, but i dunno if every available browser can do that. probably not

i think it's nice to establish a theme or suggest a certain feeling to the viewer, if they don't want it tabs can be muted. i prefer to have autoplay on by default because i don't like the look of the player hanging around at the top of the page myself.

REAL ASF like there’s plenty of great artists on there, but when I think of newsgrounds, I think of the bigoted work from the past

I've tried Newgrounds in the past since I know the founder is really trying to branch out the site and go past that reputation. Unfortunately I've found that unless your work immediately pertains to the core community (animation collabs on NG stuff you might not care about, FNF, 2010s flash humor, etc) then it's kinda lonely. Sure there's other artists that cross-post there but you can tell they don't main NG

I have the same issue! I'd love to finally start posting my art somewhere that isn't social media or my site, but when I get reccommended NG, I just frown. Whether the content there is still as awful as it was or has gotten better, I just can't make myself comfortable with the idea of posting there, let alone making an account there

Oh god I feel this 100%. I don't think I've ever really used Newgrounds for more than like, five minutes in the past because it always feels *impossible* to avoid coming across that kinda stuff. Someone needs to make a direct competitor fr.

it has a substancial amount of warts but the thing to keep in mind is that it has those warts purely because it's been around since before the turn of the millenium. as for posting art there, it's strange to admit but compared to all the other options, NG is the one that will allow for the most creative freedom/meeting of like-minded persons compared to every other option available
