Welcome!

I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the Northern Michigan University Academic Affairs and Student Success Office. As Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success at NMU, I am responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership and management for the Academic Affairs Division of the university, which includes the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences & Professional Studies, Business, Graduate Studies and Research, Library and Instructional Support, Student Success, Institutional Effectiveness and the Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center. I also work closely with other divisions of the university including Finance & Administration, the Foundation and Extended Learning & Engagement to ensure the close association of these divisions with academic programs, faculty and students.

The Academic Affairs and Student Success division supports NMU’s mission by encouraging excellence and innovation in teaching, research/scholarship, student development and community engagement. NMU’s faculty and staff includes outstanding teachers, scientists, writers, artists, musicians and experts in a variety of disciplines and technical fields, all of whom are enthusiastically committed to providing NMU’s undergraduate and graduate students with a top-quality education. We’re one of approximately 200 higher education institutions in the U.S. to have been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a “community engaged” university and our Superior Edge student development program is nationally recognized for providing our students with outstanding opportunities to apply their learning in real world environments.

Please take the time to browse the Academic Affairs and Student Success website and other NMU webpages, and listen to comments made by our faculty, staff and students at an open campus forum to learn more about what NMU has to offer. You’ll find not only a broad array of interesting and engaging academic programs, services and opportunities, but also a sense of community and an engagement in learning that permeates our entire university.

Thank you for your interest in Northern Michigan University. I hope that you will not only browse our website, but come for a visit soon. We’d love to show you around!
