Caring for someone with dementia can feel heavy in ways that are hard to explain.
The worry, the exhaustion, the grief for the person you miss, even though they’re still here.
And in all of that, your feelings, your needs, your heart often get pushed aside.
But you deserve comfort, too.
I created the Tancho Method Program for Dementia Caregivers to give you gentle moments of relief — a safe space to breathe, to feel supported, and to not hold it all alone.
Just one minute of calm can remind your nervous system that...
You’re still here, and you still matter.
I invite you to join me, Astrid Andreescu, MD*, Full-time caregiver, to:
- Learn easy mindfulness and self-care tools
- Get support from other caregivers on-line
- 40+ short stress-relief exercises on an app
- Phone or web access–anytime, anywhere
Even the smallest pause to breathe or reset can help you feel more grounded, more patient, and more like you again.
As my husband of 25 years was reaching an advanced stage of dementia,
I started burning out and became increasingly frustrated, angry, anxious... You name it.
One thing that saved me was being part of an online support group. Another thing was finding some fast-acting mind-body tools that have literally been life-savers.
“I don’t have time” is the most common thing I hear in my support group. And I felt the same way! I didn’t have time for 30 or 60-minute caregiver classes!
I wanted to learn to cope better, but what I needed was a 5-minute class. Or on some days, even shorter! And on my own time.
So I knew there was a need for “five-minute-or-less classes” and my new Tancho Method Program for Dementia Caregivers is the result.
And the support group? Essential. I needed support and I know you do too. The Program includes an on-line support board where you can share with other caregivers in the program.
I share more of my story inside the app.

FAQs
-
"Tancho" means "red crown" in Japanese, referring to the red-crowned crane. It is a symbol of health and longevity, good fortune and lasting love. That's one reason why it's in the Tancho Method name and logo. Read more about it in the Bonus section of the Tancho Method Program where I also demonstrate the graceful and lovely Crane Flying Exercise.

By integrating my knowledge as a medical doctor, Qigong instructor and caregiver, I present traditional Qigong in a way specifically designed for caregivers to easily learn and use. No 15-minute-or-more long practices required!
-
Often referred to as “Chinese Yoga” the ancient art of Qigong offers very gentle exercises, often called “mind-body” practices in the west. It is a wonderful healing art that helped me cope with the overwhelming frustration, anxiety, worry, and anger of being a dementia caregiver.

You’ll learn many quick ways to reduce stress and find the ones that best work for you. From “First Aid” when you need immediate relief to “Wellness” and “Warmth” when you experience more calm, my goal is for you to create your own go-to toolbox. You will learn how to feel better in difficult moments and prevent burnout.
-
Try it out* and see for yourself! It's easy by using our "Stress-O-Meter" to measure your stress levels before and after a lesson.
When I started my caregiving journey, I was worried, anxious, angry and overwhelmed. These are the best tools from my own toolbox that helped me calm down and feel like myself again. I'm confident you'll find many that will help you, too.

No problem!
The “do-it-with-me’ learning sessions are all under 5 minutes. Most less than 2 minutes. Once you’ve learned the exercise, you won’t need any dedicated time to practice. For example, the Therapeutic Sigh can be done in 3 seconds–even while you’re doing other things! “Shake-it-Off” can be done while you walk to another room.
-
I know Caregiver Guilt is real because I feel it too! That’s why I created this program. I present many traditional Qigong practices that can be done watching TV, using your phone, or even lying down. Please “put on your own oxygen mask first” even if it’s just for one minute! Because when YOU feel better, your loved one will feel it too–and your interactions will be less stressful.
-
None of the dementia caregiving courses I found fit into my new reality. And other caregivers said the same thing, even though we all wanted one. So when I had this idea, I dove in and just started filming videos on my porch, in my kitchen and whenever I had a few minutes.
-
No worries! All of the physical exercises can be adapted if you need to be seated. And some can even be done while lying down.

I don’t think anything can be more challenging than caring for a loved one with dementia. If you find just ONE tool that works for you, it will help every day feel just a little bit better.
And if you find TEN or TWENTY tools that work (my goal for you) caregiving will feel a whole LOT better. I look foward to meeting you in the community.
