I saw the box for shortcodes in the customize panel and thought I missed something.

The box you saw for shortcode its for “photo video gallery master” plugin.
The plugin can be used to show as portfolio with this theme or can be used to create photo or video gallery.
The plugin short-code can be put on theme shortcode box for portfolio on home page.
