This official feed from the Google Workspace team provides essential information about new features and improvements for Google Workspace customers.

Today, we’re bringing the Gemini app to macOS as a native desktop experience, designed to live right where you work. It’s always just a keyboard shortcut away, allowing you to quickly get the help you need without losing your focus.

Here are a few ways you can use it right now:

  • Stay in your flow: Switching between windows can be clunky and slow. Now, you can bring up Gemini from anywhere on your Mac with a quick global shortcut (Option + Space) to get help instantly. Whether you’re drafting a market report and need to verify a date, working on a research paper and need to cite a source, or building a spreadsheet and need the right formula, you can get your answer and get right back to work.
  • Share your window for instant context: With our new native experience, you can share anything on your screen with Gemini to get help with exactly what you’re looking at. If you’re reviewing a complex chart, simply share your window and ask, "What are the three biggest takeaways here?" to get an instant summary without breaking your stride.
Starting today, the native macOS app is available to Gemini users on macOS versions 15 and up, globally.

Getting started

  • Admins: This feature is ON by default for all organizations with Gemini enabled. The Gemini app and related in-app tools are controlled by the Generative AI settings in the Workspace Admin console. The Gemini app for Mac is subject to these existing controls. Visit the Help Center for more information on turning the Gemini app on or off.
  • End users: To get the app, visit gemini.google/mac and select "Download for Mac." Once installed, sign in with your work or school Google Account.

Google Workspace admins can now enable users in their organization to share their Gemini chat conversations by creating public links to share and publish. Previously, this capability was only available to users with personal Google accounts; this update expands access on web to Gemini users with a work or school account.

Creating public links to share Gemini conversations can improve collaboration, efficiency, and content sharing. Recipients do not need their own account. This feature lets you share full conversations - including prompts and responses - with a clickable URL.

Public links that were previously created in the Gemini app will continue to be accessible unless the links are deleted from the Gemini app. Learn how to delete a public link in the Gemini app.

Google Workspace admins will have a new control to allow users in their organization to share their Gemini conversations with public links.

Getting started

  • Admins: Public Gemini chat link sharing will be OFF by default and can be enabled at the domain, organizational unit (OU), or group level using a new control in the Admin console. Visit the Help Center to learn more.
  • End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about sharing your chats in Gemini. If you choose to share a chat, anyone with the link can read the chat, reshare it with others, and, except for chats created with Gems or for users under the age of 18, continue the chat with Gemini Apps on their own. Do not create public links to chat conversations containing confidential information or any data you wouldn’t want to be seen or shared publicly.

Update (March 31, 2026): We updated this article to reflect that image generation with Nano Banana 2 is now also available to users who are under 18 years of age. Image editing with Nano Banana 2 is still currently only available to users who are 18 years or older.

Starting today, we’re rolling out Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), our best image model yet, to Workspace customers in the Gemini app.

Nano Banana 2, which replaces our previous Nano Banana model, brings the high-speed intelligence of Gemini Flash to visual generation, making once-exclusive Pro features accessible to a wider audience, including:

  • Advanced world knowledge: Nano Banana 2 pulls from the Gemini model’s real-world knowledge base and is powered by real-time information and images from web search to more accurately render specific subjects. This deep understanding also empowers you to create infographics, turn notes into diagrams, and generate data visualizations.
  • Production-ready specs: Make attention-grabbing assets with full control over aspect ratios and resolutions—ranging from 1K for free and 2K for paid users. Your visuals will stay sharp and perfectly sized, whether you are generating a vertical social media Story or a wide-screen presentation backdrop.
  • Precision text rendering and translation: Generate accurate, legible text for infographics or marketing mockups. Users can even translate and localize text within an image to share your ideas globally.
Nano Banana 2 also dramatically closes the gap between speed and beauty, delivering high-fidelity, photorealistic imagery. Here’s what our newest model offers and has improved on from the original Nano Banana:

  • Subject consistency: Maintain character resemblance of up to five characters and the fidelity of up to ten objects in a single workflow in the Gemini app, allowing you to storyboard and build narratives without altering the appearance of your inputs.
  • Precise instruction following: With enhanced instruction following, the model adheres more strictly to your complex requests, capturing the specific nuances of your idea so the image you get is the image you asked for.
  • Visual fidelity upgrade: Nano Banana 2 delivers vibrant lighting, richer textures, and sharper details, maintaining high-quality aesthetics at the speed expected from Flash.

Getting started

  • Admins: There are no admin controls for this feature.
  • End users: Visit the Help Center for more information on generating images in Gemini.

We’re excited to announce that Google Chat is now available as a data source in the Gemini app (gemini.google.com) for Workspace customers, joining Gmail, Google Drive, and other Workspace apps. Like other Workspace connected apps in Gemini, Google Chat will be default off and can be enabled in your settings. If enabled, Gemini will be able to cross-reference your conversations in Chat to provide more informed, context-aware responses directly within your workflow.

By incorporating Google Chat into Gemini via the existing connection to Workspace apps, you can now ask Gemini to help you retrieve specific project details, summarize missed discussions, and surface information buried in your message history directly within the Gemini app.

Key capabilities include:

  • Information retrieval: Quickly find specific details, such as "Who’s the marketing lead for Project Clover?"
  • Project tracking: Ask Gemini, "What's the latest deadline mentioned for Project X?" to find dates directly from recent team discussions.
  • Quick summaries: Use prompts like "Summarize my unread chat messages from today" to get a high-level overview of what you missed.

Getting started

  • Admins: This feature will be OFF by default and can be enabled at the OU or Group level. Visit the Help Center to learn more.
  • End users: Once enabled by an admin, users can connect Google Chat to summarize and find information directly in Gemini. Visit the Help Center to learn more.

Using text-based or image prompting, you can now generate custom 30 second soundtracks in Gemini. This new capability is powered by Lyria 3, Google’s most advanced music generation model yet.

The Gemini app facilitates new forms of musical expression by transforming prompts and images into custom soundtracks. A user might, for instance, turn a “welcome to the team” email into a track. Or, a student or educator could generate custom instrumentals for class presentations or projects. From funny jingles to lo-fi beats, just describe what you want to hear and let Gemini handle the rest.

Starting today, Workspace users can now add notebooks from NotebookLM as a source in the Gemini app. This will provide deeper, more relevant responses that are grounded in the sources in your notebook. This functionality is already available to consumers, and we’re excited to share that it is now expanding to Enterprise and Education users of all ages.

NotebookLM is a powerful tool for synthesizing information from vast document collections, including PDFs, Google Docs, and more, all with clear, citable sources. By adding notebooks directly into Gemini, users can seamlessly build upon this deep, specific knowledge base and get more relevant responses with the full power of Gemini’s advanced conversational and content-creation capabilities.

Try asking Gemini to:

  • Create content based on your notebook
  • Add a notebook to a Gem
  • Use other Gemini tools (like Canvas, Veo, Guided Learning, or Deep Research) based on the contents of your notebook

Getting started

Admins: Notebooks as a source within Gemini is determined by the NotebookLM service setting within the Admin Console and is not controlled by the Gemini app service setting. NotebookLM must be turned on in order for end users to access this feature in Gemini. Visit the Help Center to learn more.

  • Note: When using NotebookLM features within the Gemini app, that usage is subject to NotebookLM's compliance certifications. These may differ from the certifications held by the Gemini app. Please review the specific compliance certifications for both NotebookLM and Gemini to understand the coverage for your organization. Learn more in the Generative AI in Google Workspace Privacy Hub.
End users: Add your NotebookLM notebook(s) to a chat in Gemini by selecting NotebookLM via the “+” button in the prompt box. Users must have access to NotebookLM turned on by their admin to access this feature. Visit the Help Center to learn more.

What’s changing

Standardized tests are often a critical component of the college application process. To support high school and college prep students during these critical milestones, we’re launching practice tests in Gemini: full-length, on-demand practice exams available at no cost. Available now, practice tests support the SAT to start, with more tests coming in the future. To try it out, tell Gemini, “I want to take a practice SAT test”.

To ensure they prepare you for the actual exam, we have grounded practice tests in rigorously vetted content from leading education companies like The Princeton Review, to build a best in class experience for learners coming to Gemini. This helps ensure that you’re not just practicing — you’re preparing with material that more closely resembles what you’ll see on test day.

When you complete a practice test in Gemini, you’ll receive immediate feedback highlighting where you excelled and where you might need to study more. For anything you don’t understand, you can ask Gemini to explain the correct answer. By helping you identify specific knowledge gaps, Gemini empowers you to turn those insights into action — creating a customized study plan that can help you walk into your exam with confidence.

Whether you are preparing for the SAT for the first time or you’re planning to retake the exam soon, Gemini is ready to help you take the next step in your educational journey.

What’s changing

We’re expanding image generation powered by Nano Banana in the Gemini app to Google Workspace users of all ages.

This update brings a highly requested and powerful creative tool to younger users, helping them visualize ideas and bring their work to life. For example, a student working on a presentation can now ask Gemini to "create an image of a cell's mitochondria for my biology project" or "generate a picture of a public square in ancient Rome."

Expanding access to this feature provides a more consistent creative experience for all Workspace users.

Users under 18 years old can improve upon their generated images with follow-ups, but cannot edit them directly or use uploaded images for image generation. To prepare to bring image generation to younger users, we conducted rigorous testing specific to users under 18. We’ve trained Gemini to recognize areas that are inappropriate to youth, and implemented safety features and guardrails, including content filters, to help prevent unsafe content, such as illegal or age-gated substances, from appearing in its responses to these users.  As a reminder, these filters aren't perfect, so please grant access as appropriate for different age levels. Teachers and staff should continue to help students use Gemini responsibly.

This allows you to distill complex information and relationships into a single, high-impact visual that makes your data easier to digest. You can also create complete and polished slide decks directly from your sources and share them as a PDF. See it in action.

Google Vids:

In Google Vids, Nano Banana Pro allows you to generate and edit images with greater precision. With new multi-turn prompting, you can refine your visuals iteratively, helping you create custom, production-ready assets to include in your videos.

Gemini app:

Generate high-quality, sophisticated visuals that help bring your creative ideas to life in the Gemini app. Simply select “Create images” and “Thinking” from the model drop down menu to access Nano Banana Pro.

We are introducing the ability to create slide presentations in the Gemini app through Canvas. Simply provide an idea with a simple text prompt or upload a source, and Gemini will generate a set of slides — complete with a theme and relevant images. Then, export the presentation from the Gemini app directly to Google Slides to continue to refine or collaborate with others.

  • Working professionals can upload a sales brief or information on your company to create an initial pitch deck, leverage a campaign brief/product doc and generate a launch presentation, upload a large research report or document to distill into a summary, and more.
  • Educators can instantly create a first draft of a lesson presentation with engaging visual aids, saving valuable prep time that can be focused on instructional strategy.
  • Students can transform their class notes or a document into a structured presentation, helping them quickly organize their ideas for a class project.
  • Nonprofit Executive Directors can transform their measurement and evaluation results into a structured presentation for their next board meeting.
Simply open the Gemini app, select “Canvas” in the toolbar, and ask Gemini to “create a presentation.” You can specify a topic or upload your own source with the prompt.

What’s happening

We are introducing improved LaTeX rendering and PDF export capabilities directly within the Gemini app. LaTeX is a document preparation system widely used in academic, scientific, and technical fields to create high-quality documents with complex formatting, such as mathematical equations, tables, and multi-column layouts.

Previously, working with LaTeX required specialized editors and significant technical expertise to find and fix errors. With this update, Gemini makes it much easier for everyone to create professional documents.

Our new LaTeX features include:

  • PDF generation: Users can now generate a pdf using LaTeX, preview it in gemini and download the pdf, ready for sharing or printing
  • Easy editing in Canvas documents: You can now add LaTeX to any document in Canvas by clicking the 𝒇𝚡 button in canvas and edit any LaTeX by clicking on the formula directly in canvas
  • Copying: Copying LaTeX from any response in Gemini will now copy the unrendered LaTeX code
This update makes Gemini a more powerful tool for students, researchers, engineers, and anyone in your organization who needs to create polished, complex documents like academic papers, problem sets, technical reports, or resumes.

Exporting to PDF is available on web and mobile web with read-only viewing available in the Gemini app on Android and iOS.

What’s changing

Google Workspace for Education users of all ages can now use Flashcards in Gemini. Users can ask Gemini to instantly create flashcards and study guides based on your quiz results or other class materials, providing a simple and effective way to review key concepts and reinforce your learning.

Why you’d use it

Flashcards can be a helpful resource for students as they study and learn with Gemini. For example, students under 18 can now:

Access Transparency, Access Management, and Access Approvals now cover Gemini App data. These features provide admins full transparency into when Gemini App data is viewed for support purposes, control over which Google support staff can view this data, and control over when this data can be viewed by Google for support purposes.

The addition of Gemini App data to Access Transparency, Access Management, and Access Approvals expands on Google’s data commitments on customer data ownership, security, and privacy.

  • Access Transparency provides real time logs whenever customer data is accessed by Google staff.
  • Access Management allows admins to limit which Google staff can access their data such as US or EU Google staff.
  • Access Approvals allow admins to require Google to request for explicit approval prior to accessing their data related to a support action.

These controls have been extended to cover Gemini App data in addition to Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Sites, Chat, meet, and Gemini in Workspace data.

What’s changing

With this launch you can share Gems with other users in your organization and beyond. Gems are customizable versions of Gemini that you can personalize to be experts on any topic. Once shared, other users can edit, use, or make a copy of the Gem. Gems sharing is powered by the same technology powering Google Drive, so you’ll notice a familiar, consistent interface and experience as you would when sharing other files, such as a Google Doc.

Admins are able to control whether their users can share Gems using a new Admin console setting located under Generative AI > Gemini app > Gems.

Why it’s important

Gems are AI experts that you can customize across a variety of topics, helping you complete specific goals, tasks, and workflows based on your inputs, while reducing repetitive prompting.

Sharing Gems can accelerate AI adoption, improve efficiency, and foster innovation across your organization. Instead of each user starting from scratch, they can quickly find and utilize prompts that have already been built, optimized, and proven effective by colleagues, saving time and effort. Further, teams can develop and refine gems tailored to the unique needs of specific departments or areas (e.g., marketing, finance, education) and share them broadly. For example, a marketing lead can create a "Brand Persona" Gem, trained on the company’s unique brand voice, and share it with the entire department. This would scale content creation while ensuring brand consistency across all channels.

Additional details

  • Gems are only shareable when any custom knowledge is either uploaded from a device to the Gem, or files added from Google Drive. If any other file types are added (e.g. code folders, emails, etc.), the Gem will no longer be shareable, and the sharing button will not be available (grayed out).
  • Once shared, Gems are stored in Google Drive. When you share a Gem that has content you have permission to share, you'll be prompted to share this content via Drive.
