The European Security and Strategy Study Track (ESSST) has been conceived in response to the growing need in Europe for strategic thinking and expertise in the multidimensional facets of security. The programme addresses some of the most pressing contemporary challenges for Europe and the EU.

Wars erupting on the EU’s external borders and within its neighbourhoods are a stark reality, carrying long-term and significant implications for the EU, its Member States, and its institutions. The track builds on the unique geographical focus and the wealth of expertise accumulated at the College of Europe in Natolin over the past two decades.

The study track combines an interdisciplinary understanding of Europe’s internal and external dimensions with advanced analysis of security, defence, military, and power dynamics, as well as strategic reasoning and decision-making. It represents the highest level of specialisation within the European Interdisciplinary Studies programme at Natolin. 

The two-year Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs, taught in English and offered jointly by the College of Europe (Bruges and Natolin) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University, Boston area), provides an excellent academic and practice-oriented education regarding the economic, legal and political aspects of transatlantic affairs in a broad sense.

The programme prepares students to work in a broad range of areas relevant to transatlantic relations, including climate change, security, diplomacy, trade, and finance.

Our Languages and Intercultural Dialogue offer was created out of the belief that a multilingual and intercultural education goes hand in hand with developing students’ capacity for reflection, self-assessment and autonomy, along with an awareness and appreciation of cultural differences.

We strive to provide professional foreign language education to Natolin students; promote multilingual and multicultural skills that facilitate mobility, enhance job prospects; and provide a diverse language learning experience in terms of methods and delivery.

With employers demanding an ever-greater range of competences, the development of professional skills that can be applied to a wide variety of situations is a matter of utmost importance. For most students, the College of Europe in Natolin is their last year of formal education and a springboard into a successful professional career.

We design and implement a professional skilling programme to equip students with the necessary competencies for today's job market. At the same time we help students develop a mature awareness of their competences, acquire knowledge of how and where to apply these and communicate them effectively to their potential employers.

The Natolin Nests are unique platforms at the crossroads of academic teaching and research, characterized by extracurricular, professional and student-driven input, with substantial support and involvement of external partners and services of the College of Europe in Natolin.

With our Natolin Nests, we promote student initiatives and in particular welcome attempts that help them tap into the considerable academic and policy expertise that we have established in our consistent areas of interest: Climate and Energy Transition, Migration and Human Rights, Digital Transformation as well as Geostrategy and Religion and Politics.
