Doing things better means doing something differen

Welcome to JCU’s Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC)

The Indigenous Education and Research Centre (IERC) is a leader in Indigenous education, research, and engagement at JCU. Our Indigenous priorities are located in our Indigenous Education Statement (IES). This strategy establishes JCU as a key institution in Indigenous education, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities integrated across Our People, Our Place, Our Education, and Our Research. We also have a Vice Chancellor Indigenous Advisory Committee (VC IAC) which will provide information to the VC on the implementation of the IES. We deliver scholarships, academic and cultural support, and engagement activities that strengthen student success through the Indigenous Student Success Program (ISSP).

Each year, the IERC celebrates the success of around 120 Indigenous graduates, placing JCU among the top universities in Australia for Indigenous completions. Our dedicated Indigenous staff provide invaluable guidance, ensuring students are supported to thrive throughout their studies. Learn more about the IERC.

If you want a sneak peak of what it's all about, visit our Indigenous Students' Awards Night page. We have the image gallery and award recipients as well as the latest video showcasing the academic and personal achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across JCU's Colleges, the Diploma of Higher Education, and the Centre for Rural & Remote Health.

Stay connected with your loved one

While university can be an exciting time for students, it can seem overwhelming for their loved ones. We have created a page specifically for family members. We have put together some frequently asked questions in case you’re not sure what you want to ask, as well as some general information that a lot of families look for. Most importantly, we have the gentle reminder that you are not alone; you can always reach out if you need to.
