Radcliffe Institute
For Advanced Study
The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University—known as Harvard Radcliffe Institute—is one of the world’s leading centers for interdisciplinary exploration. We bring students, scholars, artists, and practitioners together to pursue curiosity-driven research, expand human understanding, and grapple with questions that demand insight from across disciplines.

Linda S. Wilson, 1936–2026
We at Harvard Radcliffe Institute are saddened to learn of the death of Linda S. Wilson, who as the last president of our predecessor, Radcliffe College, helped establish and shape the Institute as we know it today.
Wilson, a chemist by training, became Radcliffe College’s seventh president in 1989. Among her accomplishments during her tenure is the establishment of the Radcliffe Research Partnerships program, which remains to this day one of our most popular undergraduate opportunities. In 1999, her presidency came to a close when Radcliffe and Harvard signed an agreement to merge, establishing the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Four scholars who’ve given considerable thought to intellectual diversity in higher education join Radcliffe Dean Tomiko Brown-Nagin to consider the meaning and value of intellectual diversity in the pursuit of knowledge.
