MOTIVATION/ANTICIPATORY SET (Building Background):
We have been reviewing long vowels for about a week. This specific reading group exhibited a lack of
understanding of the long vowel sounds according to their spelling inventory.
PRESENTATION/INPUT/MODELING (Language & Content Objectives, comprehensible input, strategies,
interaction, feedback):
Small group: each student will choose the long A sound from a list of words. They will be given a word with
the long A sound and will be asked to find a word on the list that has the same word.
PRACTICE/APPLICATION (meaningful activities, interaction, strategies, feedback):
We will discuss our thinking after each round to make sure everyone is on target. I may have them think with a
buddy if they are having too much trouble on their own.
REVIEW/ASSESSMENT (review objectives and vocabulary, assess learning):
Their main assessment will come about a week later. We are reviewing each long vowel sound before
administering a summative assessment.
EXTENSION:
We will be practicing our long vowel sounds all week and all throughout next week.
