Sami Self-Determination Conference 2008

The three day International Conference on Sami Self-Determination was held from February 4-6, 2008 in Alta, Norway. The conference program included presentations from professors and experts on topics related to indigenous peoples' rights to self-determination under international law and how it applies specifically to the Sami people of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Each day focused on a different aspect of Sami self-determination such as land, resources, livelihoods, culture, education, research, economy, politics, and a female perspective. The conference provided an opportunity for questions and discussion following each presentation.
