CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the research design, respondents of the study, research

locale, research instrument, procedure and statistical treatment of data.

Research Design

This study will use descriptive research design in order to determine the spending

and saving habits of adopted communities of Rogationist College. As defined by

Research and Statistics with Computer (2010), “Descriptive research is valuable in

playing a large part in the development of instruments for the measurement of many

things, i.e., instruments that are employed in all types of descriptive research as in data

gathering instruments like questionnaires, tests, checklist, and rating scale”. It is made

for gathering the current information needed as input to the study.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study will be 100 residents taken from the Ube Jam

Community, one of the adopted communities of Rogationist College. Researchers will

select the residents with the purpose of determining their spending and saving habits and

apply the beneficial results of the study to them towards their financial status

improvement.
Research Locale

The study will be conducted in three adopted communities of Rogationist College

namely: Sitio Birundo, Sitio Tibig, and Ube Jam Community Brgy. Lalaan 2, Silang,

Cavite. The researchers chose this location in order to determine their spending and

saving habits.

Instrumentation

In order to determine the spending and saving habits of adopted communities

namely; Sitio Birundo, Sitio Tibig, and Ube Jam Community, the researchers will use the

adapted questionnaire. This questionnaire will be used to collect data.

This questionnaire is divided into three (3) parts: the first part includes the

demographic profile of the respondents; the second part pertains to the spending habits

wherein there are two (2) sections such as monthly expenses and preference and values.

The first section aims to know monthly expenses of the respondents that includes primary,

secondary, and other expenses. The second section includes the preferred variety of

each primary, secondary, and other expenses. The last part includes saving habits

wherein there are four (4) sections such as engagement in saving, means of saving,

purpose of saving and achievement of purpose.


Procedure

After the approval of the propose study, the researchers will ask the permission of

the Baranggay Chairman of Sitio Birundo, Sitio Tibig, and Ube Jam Community to allow

them for the conduct of the study. The researchers will distribute the questionnaires to

the respondents. The information to be gathered will be tabulated, summarized, and

analyzed to determine the spending and saving habits of the respondents.

Statistical Treatment of Data.

The information to be gathered will be treated statistically through the following:

To the determine the demographic profile of the respondents and the percentage

of correct responses for each question, the researchers utilized the frequency and

percentage given by the formula:
