Technology Policy

Parents and Guardians- Please take the time and read over the classroom Technology Policy.
Make sure you and your students both understand the rules, appropriate and inappropriate
uses of technology, and the consequences.

*If you need to contact you student during class, please call the office. Students cannot use
phones during class.*

Technology will be used in class by students to promote learning through fun and stimulating
activities. Technology we will be using in class includes computers, smartboards, and laptops,
and activities may include researching topics online, playing educational games, and watching
educational videos. Students will not be permitted to use cellphone in class. Students must
acknowledge using technology is a privilege, and misusing technology will result in
consequences.
As a class we will use technology appropriately. This means:
 Technology will only be used for classroom activities that are approved by the teacher.
 Cellphones should not be used in class. Any cellphones seen in class will be taken away
until the end of the day.
 When using laptops/ computers, students will stay on task, and only use websites
approved by the teacher.
 When specifically stated, students may use technology for free time. This includes
games and videos online. On specific occasions students may use phone. All rules must
still be followed.
Inappropriate Technology use includes, but is not limited to:
 Any cyberbullying will not be permitted. Cyberbullying, in or outside of class will result in
family meeting with the principal.
 No technology will be used for personal use in class. Social media, texting, calling,
games, etc. should be done before or after class.
 Pictures should be used for school assignments only, no photos or videos should be
taken at school.
*Please let to me know if you feel there needs to be any expectations to these rules.

Consequences:
1st Offense: 1st verbal warning
2nd Offense: 2nd verbal warning, and call/note will be sent home for parent/ guardians
3rd Offense: Students technology privileges will be taken away. Students will be able to
earn these privileges back by completing an appropriate technology activity, and
showing me appropriate ways to use technology.
*Offenses 1 and/or 2 can be skipped if technology use is threatening, illegal, or obscene.

Dear parents/ guardians:
During class, I plan to take photos and videos of students during parties, projects,
activities, and field trips. These photos and videos will be posted on the class
website only, and will be shared, or posted on social media. These photos will not
include the students name, and students identities will be hidden by blurring or
putting photos on faces.

Students will not be permitted to take photos or videos of other students during
class.

Parents and Guardians- If you volunteer in class, please do not take photos of any
other students besides your own.
