Solve 5 questions from the following 7 questions.
Question 1: the single line diagram for a reactance network is shown in Fig.1.
1. Construct the per unit bus impedance matrix after removing voltage
sources using source transformation.
2. Determine the bus voltages.
3. Draw Thevenin equivalent circuit at bus 3 and estimate the current drawn
by a capacitor 5.0 pu connected between bus 3 and the reference bus.
Question 2: Construct the per unit bus impedance matrix for the power system
shown in Fig.2. Then for a three-phase fault occurs at bus 2, Determine.
1. The subtransient fault current
2. The voltages at all buses during the fault
3. The current flow in the lines from bus 3 to 4 , bus 1 to 2 and bus 4 to 2
Assume the prefault voltage at bus 2 is 1 pu and neglect all the prefault
currents.

Question 3: Construct the per unit bus admittance matrix for the power network
indicated in Fig.3 then Calculate the bus voltages (perform 2 iterations). System
parameters are shown in Tables: 1-2.

Question 4: Two generators are connected in parallel to feed through transformers a
transmission system. If a 3-phase fault occurs at bus B, determine the total fault current and
subtransient current supplied by each generator. All data of the generators and transformers is
mentioned in Table 3. Select 75 MVA and 11 KV on LV side and 132 KV on H.V. side as
base values.

Question 5:
a) Drive an expression for the fault current in terms of the symmetrical components for a
line-to-line fault on phases B & C on terminals of unloaded generator.
b) Calculate the sequence components of the following unbalanced line-to-neutral
voltages with abc sequence.
Question 6: Two synchronous generators are connected to radial power system through 3-
phase transformers as shown in Fig.6. Select 75 MVA and 13.8 KV on LV side and 69 KV on
H.V. side as base values. All data of the generators and
transformers and lines are mentioned in Table.4.
a. Draw positive, negative and zero sequence circuits for the system

Question 7: Construct the per unit positive , negative and zero impedance bus matrices for
the power system shown below in Fig.7. Then for a double line to ground fault occurs at bus
2, Determine The fault current. Assume the prefault voltage at bus 2 is 1.0 pu and neglect all
the prefault currents.
