MOTION KEYS 5
— The User Interface —
DYNAMIC & MODERN
The name MOTION KEYS is ideal for this instrument as every preset has been infused with an array of sonic movement.
Same Logic used complex programming techniques coupled with superb user interface animation effects to push the
creative boundaries of each keyboard instrument. The UI’s dynamic performance animations introduce creative and
flexible automation through oscillators and arpeggiators to keep the timbres in motion. Once you start adding layers of
motion it becomes extremely important to have an intuitive interface that provides a straightforward approach to preset
performance and construction as there are so many avenues to explore. Those who want to dive deep can easily
experiment with the total customization options within. All of this flexibility begins with a dynamic preset browsing system
and an easy to manage interface compartmentalized into 4 main sections: CORE, STEP, FX & MASTER.
The CORE section is used to load individual sound sources (samples) and core presets (instruments) into any of the 4
cores. At the center of the CORE section is a XY controller used for blending and automating all cores simultaneously.
Here you will also find powerful mixing tools for each core, including independent LFO controls to maximize motion,
adding wobble and gated effects.
The STEP section is where the magic happens, applying animation to all 4 cores. Add movement with ease driven by the
Step Animator arpeggiation engine. The Step Animator gives each core a unique arp sequence, not just a run-of-the-mill
arpeggiator pattern, but a slew of dynamic arpeggiated performance parameters. The STEP section offers over 320
unique animation presets. With 4 randomizable step animators, 1 for each core, infinite motion abounds, resulting in
limitless combinations of sounds and animations.
The FX section is where multiple effects combine to create your dream tone, with up to 6 insert effects slots for each of
core. With over 25 different effects to choose from and the added power of animation via the multiple FX animators, you
can take motion to complex new places. The Step Animator and Dynamic FX Animators are on separate internal clocks,
allowing even more freedom to create syncopated and polyrhythms between each core.
The MASTER section sums up the final mix with 6 dynamic effect inserts in 1 serial effects chain. This is extremely handy
for polishing the entire multicore instrument to create a seamless whole. From compression and saturation to delay and
reverb, use the many and varied controls to instantly make presets production-ready.
UNLIMITED TWEAKABILITY
Time is money and deadlines have never been tighter, thus Sample Logic has gone to great lengths to save you time and
frustration with MOTION KEYS. Finding the perfect sound quickly and easily is vitally important, so efficiency defines
every step of the interface. Locating sounds and presets is a breeze using the multi-tag browser system. Each source,
core, and multi-core preset is tagged with descriptive genre driven meta tags. From there, favorite presets to save them
for future use - even when you close and reopen the instrument! The browser is a one-stop solution for choosing presets
and playback manipulations. Access sources, cores and multicore instrument presets with the ability to audition and
activate step animators whilst browsing, or performing. Keep it simple, or design wildly complex sequences...it’s up to you!
Load individual core presets that merge into 1 complete 4-core instrument, or load a fully built multicore preset and you’re
done. Too simple? Then choose to browse using search filters that can focus only on sources, effects, patterns, or any
combination of these. Isolate specific attributes of a preset while sorting through, one by one. Only looking for a step
animator pattern, or sound source? Then select it in the browser and leave the other parameters as they were. Pick and
mix which elements of the presets to use to create your own unique combinations.
RANDOMIZE MODE
In a hurry? Sample Logic has equipped over a dozen parameters for randomization within the MOTION KEYS interface,
allowing you to rapidly tap into trillions of combinations with deep and dynamic creative effects. Use these as they are, or
as starting points for your own custom instruments. Simply click the randomization button and prepare for infinite
creativity. The interface’s intelligent randomization technology will generate inspiring results on the spot, every time!

QUICKSTART GUIDE
MOTION KEYS is a powerful tool for all types of percussive music creation expressed via an intuitive interface designed
for the full paid version of Kontakt 5.8.1 or higher. In as little as 5 seconds, you can take advantage of the instrument’s
dynamic 4-core sound engine, running up to 4 unique audio sources simultaneously. Use this quickstart guide as a
general overview and to get up and running immediately.
Definitions
With MOTION KEYS you can load sounds 3 different ways, as – Sources, Cores, or Instruments.
SOURCE – A sound source (sample) is a single audio sound that is independent of a specific preset. It is the most basic
unit of sound in MOTION KEYS, serving as the building block for core and instrument presets.
CORE – A sound core is a fully produced standalone single sound preset. There are 4 sound cores found within MOTION
KEYS. Each sound core hosts sequencing parameters and a number of powerful effects that act only on the source
played back from within the specific core.
INSTRUMENT – An instrument is made up multiple sound cores (multi cores). In addition, instrument presets include
master level mixing and mastering effect parameters, which act on the mix (sum) of all of 4 sound cores.
MOTION KEYS 8
Loading Instrument Presets
With the all inclusive browser technology, selecting from hundreds of instrument presets is simple. An instrument preset
recalls settings for all sound cores, including all of their associated core effects, master effects, and all mixer settings.
To load an instrument preset, click the preset name in the Instrument Preset panel, or to quickly browse presets, click the
left/right arrows on the left side of the instrument preset panel as seen below: To reload the current preset, if you have
made changes, click the Init icon (paper) on the left of the save icon (disk).
Now select any number of categories from the TAGS column and then click a preset name from the PRESET column.
To save custom instrument presets, use the Save icon (choosing any save destination you like) and then load them using
the Load icon.
Hot Tip: To keep your custom presets organized and easy to find, a good save destination is the Instruments folder. The
format will be a .NKA, which must be loaded via the user interface. You can also save presets as .NKI files by using
Kontakt’s “save as…” function, if you so desire. We recommend using the internal preset save/load feature.
MOTION KEYS 9
Loading Sound Core Presets
Quickly create custom instrument presets by loading sound core presets into each sound core using the sound core
browser. Sound core presets only affect a single sound core, and do not load settings for any of the master effects.
To load a preset, click the sound core preset name in the Home Screen, or to quickly browse presets, click the left/right
arrows to the left of the sound core preset name as seen below:
Then select a sound core category or categories (TAGS) and preset name (PRESET) from the browser that will appear.
To the right of the PRESET column is a FILTER section with 4 filters - SOURCE, STEP ANIMATOR, FX and FAVORITES.
Filters affect how the browser loads presets. For SOURCE, STEP ANIMATOR and FX, when activated (checked purple),
selecting a preset from the browser will only load the attribute designated by the selected filter. In the example above, the
SOURCE (sample) will be the only attribute loaded when clicking a preset. When deactivated, the entire preset loads.
The FAVORITES filter, limits the browser to display only presets that have been earmarked as favorites by clicking the
heart icon next to a preset name.
MOTION KEYS 10
Loading Sound Sources
Sources can be loaded into any one of the 4 sound cores using the same protocol as with instrument and core presets.
Click the preset name and then select a preset from the browser as shown below. You can also use the left/right arrows to
cycle through sources incrementally.
MOTION KEYS 11
Using Randomizer Functions
Multi instruments, cores and sources may be auto loaded via a randomizer, which can also randomize nearly every
parameter of a preset. Click the 3 dots to the left of the RANDOM button to choose the parameters you wish to randomize
and then click the RANDOM button to generate a random result.
MOTION KEYS 12
MOTION KEYS IN DEPTH
MOTION KEYS 13
To understand the organization and browsing system, we’ll start with a full Instrument and work our way to a single
source. From the Core View you can load a multi core instrument preset right from the middle of the user interface. The
instrument panel will always remain present no matter what view you are in. Choose and filter instrument presets directly
in the browser that appears when you click the instrument panel, or arrow left and right to a different preset without
interfacing with the browser.
As discussed, instrument presets are made up of 4 cores which each have a dedicated browser. Clicking on a Core
Preset chooser will bring a specific core browser window into view, as seen above - BROWSER CORE 1 PRESET. You
may also focus on the sound source (SOURCE) or step animator pattern (STEP) by clicking on the specific tab and then
use the associated chooser in the same fashion. When you click on the desired sound engine, the browser will update to
list the available presets for that engine. See below.
To make things even easier, we have instituted a favorites feature within the browser so you may quickly find and
remember your favorite instrument, core, source, step animator presets. This will allow you to filter your favorites by sub-
category too. Simply click the heart icon next to any preset and it will be stored in your favorites. Click the favorites filter
button to display only your favorites in the browser.
MOTION KEYS 14
When auditioning, mixing cores and, or building multi core instruments, click the solo button (S icon) or deactivate button
(power switch next to the core number) to isolate core playback.

FX VIEW
Each sound core may utilize up to 6 hot swappable insert FX, each with their own set of customizable parameters.
MOTION KEYS 23
Some insert effects will have their own preset chooser menu, as seen below for EQ.
MOTION KEYS 24
Master View
The Master View houses a suite of studio-quality mastering effects that apply to all 4 sound core outputs as an FX chain.
Each insert effect functions in the same way as the core insert effects do and can be chained together just like the core
FX chains. The only difference here is that no master insert effect can be animated. Use one of the 13 included Master FX
chain Presets to polish the final mix of a multicore instrument, all of which are fully configurable combinations of insert
effects. To customize a FX chain, insert any 1 of the 22 effects into the chain wherever you like. The chain signal flow runs
from left to right starting in the top row. Hot Tip: Use the internal gains of various dynamic based effects to control the
overall output of a multi.
