CHAPTER 8 : TRIGONOMETRY

1. ASSERTION :The value of the expression (sin 80° – cos 80°) is negative.
REASON : the value of sin θ and cos θ increases as θ increases from 0° to 90°
2. If cosA + cos2A = 1, then sin2A + sin4A =
(a) 0 (b) 1 (c) 2 (d) -2
3. If sec A – tan A = x then sec A =

(b) = 2cosec θ

(c) = 2cosec θ

(d) (√3+1) (3 – cot 30°) = tan3 60° – 2 sin 60°

(e) 1 + (cot2 α/1+cosec α) = cosec α

5. If cosecθ + cotθ = p, then prove that cosθ = (p2 – 1)/ (p2 + 1).
6. If 1 + sin2θ = 3sinθ cosθ , then prove that tanθ = 1 or ½.
7. Given that sinθ + 2cosθ = 1, then prove that 2sinθ – cosθ = 2.
8. If tanθ + secθ = l, then prove that secθ = (l2 + 1)/2l.
