Mechon
Mechon are a type of enemy in Xenoblade Chronicles. They are machines from the Mechonis and enemies of the Homs.
Appearance[edit]
Mechon come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Most are composed of a shell with dark blue armour and gold trims, though some are green or reddish-brown. They bear many spiked implements, circular working parts, and glowing red sensor-lights, with a few having structures resembling eyes.
Story[edit]
Mechon and Homs clashed throughout the ages. During the Battle of Sword Valley, Dunban used the Monado to destroy a large amount of Mechon, ending the battle in the Homs' victory, at the cost of his right arm. A year later the Mechon are presumed destroyed until they raided Colony 9, lead by a Face Mechon called Metal Face who was unharmed by the Monado. They began taking and killing Homs. During the attack, Metal Face took the life of Shulk's childhood friend, Fiora who swore revenge on him alongside Reyn.
During their pursuit of Metal Face, Shulk and Reyn came across a refugee camp on the Bionis' Leg lead by Sharla from Colony 6 which met a similar fate to Colony 9. After Shulk has a vision of her and younger brother Juju being killed by a Mechon with many tentacles, Juju snuck out of the camp, prompting the three to chase him down. When they found him, he is caught by a Mechon M71. After Shulk learns Monado Speed to save Sharla from being killed, they destroyed it and saves Juju. However, they are confronted by a Bronze Faced Mechon who kidnaps Juju, during this confrontation, it is revealed that Face Mechon are capable of speech.
Gameplay[edit]
Conventional weapons only deal 1 damage to Mechon with physical attacks and half damage with ether attacks. When a Mechon is toppled, these resistances are temporarily disabled; most Mechon also stay toppled for 50% longer. Early in the game, only the Monado can deal damage to Mechon normally, and Shulk's Monado Enchant can be used to give other party members the ability to damage Mechon normally for a limited time. Later on, other party members can obtain weapons that can damage Mechon normally as well.

There are various sub-types of Mechon.

Fortress units are known for attacks like Mega Flame Throw, which inflicts a high-damage Blaze debuff, and Titan Stamp, which has a huge area of effect and does a lot of damage to everyone. However, they are uniquely weak to high ground - if fought from a height advantage of at least 10 metres, they take triple damage and cannot use Titan Stamp.
