The Nintendo Switch, or simply the Switch, is a hybrid video game console released by Nintendo and its seventh major home game console as the successor to the Wii U. While the Nintendo Switch was originally announced on March 3rd, 2015 under its codename "NX", it wasn't until October 20th, 2016 when the Switch was officially announced with an overview trailer, and got a major presenation with all its characteristics on January 13th 2017. In said presentation Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was revealed without a release date. On March 3rd, 2017, Nintendo Switch was finally released almost worldwide (excluding South Korea).

On July 10th, 2019, a version of the Switch more suited for handheld gameplay was announced. Titled the Nintendo Switch Lite, it features a smaller display and non-detachable Joy-Cons. It is exclusively for handheld play, and cannot be connected to the Nintendo Switch dock and consequently to the TV.

On July 17th, 2019, a revision of the Switch was announced. It features a longer battery life and better chip. It was made available for purchase in August in North America and Japan, and September in Europe.

On July 6th, 2021, an enhanced version of the Switch, was announced. Titled Nintendo Switch OLED, it features a larger, OLED display, a brand new dock with a built-in LAN port, doubled the storage capacity from 32GB to 64GB, enhanced audio, and a new adjustable stand for tabletop mode. Although there are versions of the Nintendo Switch OLED with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom or Splatoon 3 designs, there is not a Xenoblade version.
