Improv Classes in Portland
for Students
You Don't Need to Be Funny. You Just Need to Show Up.
Improv is for everyone. Not just performers, not just extroverts, not just people who think they're funny. The only thing required to walk through our doors is a willingness to play — a gift every human being already has.
Change Through Play teaches and practices what's known as process improvisation — a meditative, joyous, and deeply human practice that invites people from any background to explore play, communication, and collaboration in a supportive environment. Science tells us it relieves stress, improves brain function, builds healthier relationships, and unlocks creativity. Our students will tell you it's one of the best things they've ever done.
Who Takes Our Classes?
Our students come from every walk of life. You'll find retired professionals, corporate leaders, anxious introverts, seasoned performers, and complete beginners all in the same room — and somehow it works beautifully. Here's who tends to find us:
People in transition — a career change, retirement, the loss of a loved one. Improv anchors you in community, reminds you your soul is alive, and gives you something to look forward to every week.
People with social anxiety — if interactions with others feel hard, playing with a group of people is a surprisingly powerful gateway to a new kind of freedom. Our studio is a genuinely safe space.
Managers, leaders, and directors — process improv will make you a sharper communicator and collaborator, bringing more joy and presence to your meetings, presentations, and all-hands.
Public speakers and presenters — improv transforms presentations from performances you survive into experiences your audience remembers.
Curious humans — sometimes people just want to try something new, meet interesting people, and laugh. That's more than enough reason.
Actors & Performers — for those looking to study performance improv, our Founder - David Koff - has been acting on TV, Film, and commercials and improvising on stage professionally since 1993. He’s studied at some of the best-known improv schools and with some of the finest teachers and bring literal decades of experience to his students.
