What You'll Learn at Change Through Play

Our Teaching Philosophy

Every class and workshop we offer — regardless of level — is built around two core goals that never change.

The first is awareness. We help students bring the things that are hidden in their improv practice AND in their lives into clearer view — the habits and patterns they can't yet see in themselves. I talk too fast. I'm not really listening. I can't read the non-verbal cues others are giving me. Seeing yourself clearly is the first step to changing.

The second is growth. We use different games and exercises — some familiar, some that we’ve created — to develop new skills that allow students to improve and evolve those parts of themselves. The learning is experiential, not theoretical. You won't sit and listen. You'll do.

Our Current Class Series

All class series run 7–9 weeks. View the current schedule and register here.

Foundations

Mondays, 7:00–9:30pm | Taught by Natasha von Salza | All levels welcome

Our introductory series is designed for both non-performers and performers alike — anyone curious about improv for the first time or returning after a break. Students learn experientially through games that introduce active listening, eye contact, and verbal and non-verbal communication. It's incredibly fun, genuinely welcoming, and requires zero experience or background in performance.

Students are encouraged — but never required — to participate in our student showcase events on stage.

Daytime/Playtime

Tuesdays, 11:00am–1:00pm | Taught by David Koff | All levels welcome

This daytime series has one focus and one focus only: play. Not performing. Not stage work. Pure, joyous, exploratory play that leads to over surprising insights.

We begin with games and then shift toward real-world situations, using the techniques of applied improvisation to help students navigate life outside the classroom. If you're looking for something that will genuinely change how you move through the world, this is it.

The Improv Workshop

Tuesdays, 7:00–9:30pm | Intermediate & Advanced | Taught by David Koff

For those who want to pursue improvising on stage as a team. In this series we develop and refine the skills that make long-form improv look effortless — character development, scene awareness, relationship building, and knowing when to enter, exit, or edit a scene. Our relentless focus is on creating compelling stories through genuine connection, not jokes.

Our curriculum covers: a deep dive into developing story awareness; allowing versus forcing ideas or comedy; core stagecraft skills; developing awareness of how story informs when to enter, exit, or edit a scene.

Improv for Personal Development ⭐ New

Level: All levels | Thursdays 7-9pm | Taught by David Koff

Reduce social anxiety. Increase confidence. Learn to navigate the world more skillfully. Begin changing your own psychology.

Our newest class series isn't therapy — but it most certainly is therapeutic. Anchored in the teachings of Augusto Boal and Paulo Freire, two educators who brought applied improvisation to the world, we'll leverage the power of process improv to bring practical tools of awareness into our daily lives. Together, we’ll see the patterns that are holding you back, then teach you the tools tp begin moving past them.

Together we'll learn to: 👂 really hear our instinct, even in challenging situations; 👣 Stand in the moment patiently and confidently; 🗣️ Speak our truth calmly and kindly and much more.

Open House & Showcase Events

We periodically host open house events for prospective students and showcase performances where current students take the stage. These are a wonderful way to experience Change Through Play at a substantial discount before committing to a full class series.

When All Else Fails, Just Remember…

Improvising in front of others can be joyous and, sometimes, scary. Suddenly, you’re not in control anymore! Maybe you won’t know what to say! Who knows if you’ll say or do something that’s dorky and weird?!?! So when all else fails, just remember: we got your back!

a rock with an image of two stick figures, one holding on to the actual back of the other. it reads "I got your back!"

OK, well, not LITERALLY, but still…
