Shania Reid is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. She is a member of the Lost Numbers and House Reid.

Appearance and personality

Shania is a woman with brown hair tied in two ponytails and green eyes. Shania wears a skintight black bodysuit with red accents, a sleeveless green camo jacket over it with a skirt of the same color, as well as black military boots. In some flashbacks, Shania wears the same orange hand wraps as Ghondor. Her choice of weapon is usually a small pocket pistol which belonged to her sister, Titania. After her suicide and subsequent transformation into a Moebius, Shania wore the red armor that all Consuls wear, but she doesn't wear a helmet.

Shania is usually a quiet person, however when she speaks up she is often cynical and rude towards others. She looks up to Ghondor as a role model, but secretly she resents her for being better than her at combat and other factors considered for the Ouroboros candidate selection - her mother's sole focus after the Titania's death. This jealousy, and the subsequent abuse by her mother due to not meeting her expectations, eventually leads to her into betraying Ghondor, the party and even the City in order to join Moebius.

Story arc

Main Story

Shania begins following the party after Guernica's death. Despite being briefly glimpsed collecting Guernica's eyepatch from his resting spot at Melnath's Shoulder and watching the party from Syra Hovering Reefs as they infiltrate Keves Castle, she wasn't properly introduced until after the party reaches Swordmarch. She then guides the party through their journey to reach the City under Monica's order. After the party finally reaches the City, she then gives a tour of it. She then later returns Guernica's eyepatch to Monica.

Shania takes part in a rescue mission to free Ghondor from Li Garte Prison Camp in Agnus Castle. Shania then has a conversation with Sena after fending off an Agnian attack at Corne Island, claiming her and Sena are the same. Shania later reminisces of collecting Guernica's eyepatch before X appears and speaks to her.

Shania is seen watching the party's fight with Ghondor at Li Garte Prison Camp before they are apprehended by Agnian guards. Shania then briefly talks to Ghondor and Sena, a day before they break out, expressing jealousy towards the former. In a flashback involving her and Ghondor at the Memorial Hall, she failed the Ouroboros candidate selection test several times, upsetting her, revealing she used a cestus Blade to inspire Ghondor. Annoyed Ghondor told her to not to copy her and try something original. Behind the party's back, Shania conspires with some of the Lost Numbers to betray the group to Moebius. During the party and Ghondor's escape, she alerts the Agnian forces who are on a training exercise at Daedal Isle, which also comprises of Consuls N and M who then ambush the group outside the prison, just moments away from freedom with three Gyrnius-type Levnises. Furious and shocked, the party demands why she betrayed them only for N claiming that she's right to sell them out prompting Shania to laugh at the party's misfortune. Sena then demands why she sided with Moebius against the City with Shania claiming that those who run to an early grave are not her kin and spiting Ghondor's family. Sena and Shania then argue about the nature of the world. Knowing they are outnumbered, the party decides to distract the Agnian forces and the Consuls to give Ghondor the chance to escape in which they did. As Ghondor and her posse makes a run for it, Shania shouts Ghondor's name as she scornfully glares at her.

After the party is imprisoned in the Ivory Gaol, Shania visits them, and reveals that she decides to kill herself after Mio's Homecoming before revealing to the party that she is somehow bound to a Flame Clock, claiming that it's proof that she joined Moebius's ranks. Shania then claims that she will reborn after her death in the cycle of rebirth.

Shania later participates in Mio's Homecoming alongside X, N, M, and the Queen of Agnus at Agnus Castle in which to everyone surprise that M was Mio all along and that M took her place. She later witness the party defeat N and the fake Queen. It turns out that Shania even betrayed the City by giving X the coordinates to fire Agnus Castle's Annihilator. Ghondor and the Lost Numbers then arrives at the Castle much to her surprise, revealing that the City was a Ferronis in which they moved underneath Aionios. Shania then breaks down in front of the party and Ghondor before pulling out her pocket pistol and committing suicide by shooting herself in the temple, much to Ghondor's protest.

Side Story: Sena

Shania is the main antagonist of Side Story: Sena.

After her death, Shania's body is seen in a lake as she is revived as a Moebius by X, gaining the ability to use Stasis Command to stop time. In a flashback, Shania run towards her mother telling her that she made it in as a Ouroboros candidate in 8th place, disappointing her, reminding Shania that the House Reid reputation is at stake. Shania then told her mother that Ghondor is in first place, angering her mother further, reminding her that her late father made the team, prompting Shania to clench her fist in fury. Shania then destroys a painting of Guernica and her father in a rage. After the flashback, Shania decides to attack the City to get revenge on Ghondor and those who wronged her, freezing the entire City's inhabitants including Monica. In another flashback, Ghondor chastises Shania for copying her, reminding her that she still has Titania's pocket pistol, telling her to discard it, saying those are not where her talents lie.

On the ride to the City, Ghondor reveals to the party that Shania suffered abuse from her mother. At Memorial Hall, Shania scornfully glares at her now-frozen mother (ironically in front of the statue of House Reid's founder's mentor, Shulk) with hate before realizing the party has arrived.

When the party finds Monica and several Lost Numbers frozen at Memorial Hall, Shania confronts them, declaring her glee for being Moebius, revealing her ability to freeze time, and even stopping the flow of air. She then declares her intention to destroy everything and repaint it in blood red. She then attempts to freeze the party, but Noah pulls out Lucky Seven which nullifies her power. Noah then demands Shania to free everyone from her power, infuriating her, calling the party "weevils" but Ghondor retorts that she's one. Sena then tells her if she hates the world, why she didn't try to change it herself. Shania rants that she's life's been cushy to her, saying that she and Sena are not alike. Ghondor then told her that becoming Moebius is a waste of effort, prompting her to transform into her Moebius form in fury and attack the party.

Despite wielding the ability to freeze time via Stasis Command, she is defeated. Refusing to accept defeat, Shania attempts a final attack on Ghondor, only for her to fatally punch her in the chest with her cestus. As she lays dying, she makes peace with Ghondor before fading away. After her death, her name is inscribed on a tombstone on the Remembrance Stones before her mother scornfully lectures her late daughter for becoming Moebius with no remorse, angering Ghondor, Monica and the party.

In a flashback, Shania paints a picture of her father and Guernica, drawing Ghondor's curiosity, praising her work before asking why she painted them, with Shania saying she wants to be like them someday to protect the City, before Ghondor tells her to be true to herself. In the final flashback, Shania is seen doing target practice with Titania's pocket pistol, with her father telling her to put it away, pulling out a paint brush, telling her that he wants to she her doing the things she enjoys the most.
