Report to accompany the estimate for the work of
“Excavation of new feeder Channel from PABR Right canal off take
at 60.516 Km to feed Alamuru MI tank near Alamuru Village, in
Ananatapuramu Rural Mandal in Anantapuramu District.”
[Link]:- 115, 00,000/-
This tank is situated about 1.20 Km to the North- East of the
Alamuru village in Anantapuramu Rural Mandal. Irrigation under the tank is
being carried on by three masonry sluices and the registered ayacut under
the tank is 162 Acres.
The Salient features of the tank are as follows.
1) FTL : +357.49M
2) MWL : +358.22M
3) TBL : +360.05M
4) Top width : 1.80 M

6) Free Catchment Area : 11.06 Sq Km
7) Combined Catchment Area : 55.36 Sq Km
8) Maximum Flood Discharge : 5407 Cft
9) Capacity of the tank : 57.34 Mcft
10) Water spread area : 162 Acres
11) Ayacut in acres : 162 Acres
12) Length of bund : 834 M
13) No. of Sluices : 3 No
14) No. of Weirs : 2 No
The tank receives inflows from its free basin besides surpluses
from upper tank [Link] tank and surpluses in to Sreerangarajani tank
through Tadakaleru River. The tank lies in Anantapur Minor Basin
(Tadakaleru River Basin) under Penna River basin. The tank is intended to
serve the registered ayacut of 162.00 acres under the tank in two villages
Viz; Alamuru and Kattakindapalli Villages besides recharging of no. of
irrigation bore wells as well as drinking bore wells in the influencing zone.
Ananthapuram district is one among the districts of arid region
of Rayalaseema. Ananthapuram district is most drought affected area in the
country and to its credit it is the second lowest rainfall receiving district in
India, next to Jaisalmar of Rajasthan State. The average monsoon rainfall in
the district is only 553 mm. The Alamuru tank is situated in chronically
drought hit area of Anantapur district. Most of the farmers in this area are of
small and marginal farmers, who mainly depend on cultivation for their lively
hood. Due to erratic and low intensity of rainfall and also due to prevailing
drought conditions in this area, the tank could not receive water for the last 10
years or so and the ground water table in the bore wells meant for drinking
water/Agricultural purpose in the influencing zone is drastically depleting day by
day. The ayacut lands are becoming barren and the ryots are facing much
difficulty for their lively hood.
Based on the request of Public representatives and also in order to prevent this
area from desertification and also to provide some relief from the suffering both for
drinking water and for protective irrigation, the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh vide GO MS
No. 698 I & CAD ([Link].V) Department, dated: 14-08-2005, has issued necessary
orders to fill the [Link] enroute PABR right canal under TBP HLC system by
allocating 10.00TMC of water from [Link]. About 49 No of tanks in Northern part
of Anantapur District are included for filling from PABR right canal. Among these,
the Alamuru tank is also one proposed to be fed from the off take sluice provided at
Ch.52.83 Km of PABR right canal after B. Yaleru M.I. tank, the upper tank whose
storage capacity is 189.43 Mcft. But, by virtue of its position in the series and also
the upper tank being huge one with large capacity, the Alamuru tank could not get
a drop of water for the last about one decade or so. Due to acute short fall of rainfall
during 2014, the Govt. has released water to fill the tanks from PABR right canal
well in advance from 20th of October/2014 by lifting of water from AVRHNSS main
canal besides supplies from [Link] also. But the same scenario was repeated
during 2014 also and the Alamuru tank could not get water, though water is
released for about 120 days and more. In view of the prevailing drought conditions,
severe efforts were made by the District administration as well as public
representatives including the Hon’ble Minister for Civil Supplies to fill the Alamuru
tank and could not succeeded.
In view of the above, the Hon, ble Minister for Civil Supplies has instructed
to expedite all the alternatives to fill the Alamuru [Link] at least next year. Hence
it is proposed to excavate a new feeder channel from PABR right canal duly
providing a separate off- take, since the Alamuru tank is included in the list of
feeding tanks and also water allocation is made for the same. Accordingly this
estimate is necessitated and prepared with the following provisions.
After conducting thorough investigations and also as per the topography
of the country, it is proposed to construct an off- take at Ch.60.516 Km of PABR
right canal on left bank to draw the water to Alamuru tank separately. The
alignment of the feeder channel is probed such that the depth of cut will be as
minimum as possible. The proposed feeder channel traverses through the fields of
Topudurthy and Rangampeta villages in Atmakuru Mandal and Bukkacherla village
in Raptadu Mandal for a length of 4.45 Km and finally joins the natural vagu course
which leads to Alamuru tank.
The Hydraulic particulars of the Main canal (PABR Right canal) at
Ch. 60.516 Km are as follows.
1 Discharge in Parent Canal : 19.40 Cumecs
2 Bed level : + 401.49 m
3 Full Supply depth : 2.50 m
4 Bed Width : 10.0 m
5 Bed Fall : 1 in 7000 m
The registered ayacut under the tank is 162.00 acres with a storage
capacity of 57.34 Mcft. The designed/ carrying capacity of the proposed feeder
channel is arrived as 29.43 Cusecs or 0.83 Cumecs to fill the Alamuru tank with 30
flood days from PABR right canal duly considering the transmission losses, water
required for land preparation for sowing etc;. The R.C.C Hume pipe of 800 mm dia is
proposed for the off- take sluice to draw the required water as per design
calculations. To carry the designed discharge of 0.83 cumecs, the bed width of
feeder channel is proposed as 1.50 m with 1:1 side slopes and FSD of 0.70 m. The
total length of feeder channel is 4450 m and finally the channel joins in to the
natural vagu course which leads in to Alamuru tank. 4 No of Pipe culverts are
proposed across the Feeder channel to cross the existing cart tracks at Ch. 650 m,
1550 m, 3000 m and 3775 m. Further 5 No of drops of 1.0 m depth are proposed
between Ch.3490 m and 3750 m to negotiate the difference in ground elevation.
The hydraulic particulars of the proposed feeder channel are as follows.
1 Designed Discharge in feeder channel : 0.83 Cumecs
2 Bed Level at Starting : + 401.79 m
3 Bed width : 1.50 m
4 Bed Fall : 1 in 1800 m
5 FSD : 0.70 m
6 Length of channel : 4.450 Km
The classification of the soils in excavation of feeder channel is
made based on the assumption that 60% of all soils and 40% of hard rock will be
met with as per the terrain visible at the site, since the pattadars are not accepting
for excavation of trail pits without paying [Link].
About 24.26 acres of land is to be acquired for the excavation of proposed
feeder channel in Topudurthy and Rangampeta villages in Atmakuru Mandal and
Bukkacherla village in Raptadu Mandal. A provision of Rs. 29.36 Lakhs is made in
the estimate towards land acquisition charges based on the valuation certificate
issued by the Sub-Registrar, Anantapuramu Rural (M).
The following are the provisions made in the estimate.

holes including cost of all materials, labour, drilling 8 mm dia holes etc. complete.
9). Providing and Constructing 30 cm thick dry rubble stone pitching including cost
of all materials, labour, hand packing, finishing etc.,complete.
