Project Description

This project was a joint initiative of Professor Phil Martin and Barbara Hegenbart under the auspices of the UCD General Library Digital Initiatives Program. It provides researchers with access to a searchable and browseable collection of California UFW collective bargaining agreements. The texts are converted to machine-readable form and encoded in Extensible Markup Language (XML), using the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines and Document Type Definition (P4), following the best practice guidelines under development by the California Digital Library Structured Text Working Group. XSLT and XHTML are used to transform and display the documents. Before publication, the coding and the text are checked manually. In addition to HTML and XML files, a PDF document of each contract is available to facilitate easy printing of the material. The collection currently contains more than 100 contracts.
